When choosing a flight what is the shortest layover you will do to ensure luggage is transferred from one plane to the next?

45 minutes seems about right. No way I would do 30 min anymore, especially with such limited flight schedules. Curious what airports would you do a half hr?
Last time I had a 60 min connection in Atlanta turn into 24 min ( thread) I made it but bags didn't.

DFW is the best to navigate for me. I’ve only flown through Atlanta and Ohare a couple times, but have flow through all the other hubs 20+ times.
At DFW, you’re either in the right terminal or you’re 2 stops away from where you need to be.

DFW's a good one if mainline to mainline or eagle to eagle. I always got stuck with B to E or C to B and also got stuck with the trams not working a few times, has that been fixed?
ATL is good if you're near the middle of the terminals by the train. DTW is easy with the tram. There's definitely some airports that make it easier

I can do 30 by myself. Will have a few items in my carry on. With the wife 45 minutes. With wife and 3 year old son 1:15 minutes. If we don't have his stuff when we land... problem.

It really depends on how important it is to you that all of your checked items arrive at the same time as you. If I'm going somewhere with my s/o for a week and we have a checked bag, I'm not too concerned. I'll have a change of clothes in my carry on. If the checked bag arrives on a later flight they'll deliver it to my hotel and I'll be ok.
If I were traveling with children and checking something like a car seat, I would want to be certain that it arrived at the same time I did. I'd want at least 75 minutes.

The most important part of this is where you are on the plane. If you buy a basic economy ticket and are stuck in the back that can easily take 15-20 mins to deplane. If you are in the first few rows then you decrease that delay.
Also, I am more inclined to cut it close on connections coming home (provided my flight home isn’t the last of the day) because if my bags don’t make it then they will be delivered to me.
Lastly, unless i have to I try not to ever check a bag. Pre-COVID I flew 2+ times a week and always used just a carry on. That saved me on tight connections.

35 minutes in ATL definitely possible by yourself. Did that once with a kid and it was close.

Depends on a lot of factors for me:
Plenty of later flights to my destination if I don't make it?
Checked bag or do I care if my bag is a day late?
Would it suck to be stuck at that airport?
Is my wife with me to say "I told you so" if we don't make it...

Detroit is the goat short layover airport. You just have to run straight down the concourse.
