Granted, it’s one person‘s opinion and has McGwire and bonds in there. But it’s worth a watch.

During the intro to game 2 of the 1988 World Series NBC did an intro that showed a splice of The Natural with Gibson's homerun.

It's the only HR I've seen that became an instant classic. A lot of homeruns are great because of nostalgia but not this one.

In fact when Gibson got back to his locker someone had replaced his nameplate with Roy Hobbs.

It's the greatest because it's not just another game winner - it's a movie HR, it's Hollywood come to life on the biggest stage in the most dramatic fashion. It's almost fake, it can't be real. If you know the full backstory (they tell it in the Ken Burns doc) it reads like fiction.
