Ok. So you think you eat better than most..... good for you. But we did not need to see your whole shopping list.....Damn.

Oh my fault, I thought this was a thread about food and what we put in our bodies. It's just that the person I was responding to made a claim that avoiding processed foods was extremely difficult so I gave them an insight to a shopping list that focuses on whole foods.

I should think before I post information that's not relevant to the discussion. Again, that's my fault.

I guess this is true

my old roommate refused to eat leftovers, but loved to cook

I basically lived off of his leftovers when we lived together

Mine was freschetta brick oven.

My normal high school day was:

Breakfast:
1/3 weight gainer shake
3 eggs
Toast

2nd period:
pb n j sandwich
Doritos

Lunch:
2nd pb n j
Doritos
2 oatmeal cream pies

Dinner:
2-3 filets of catfish/trout/salmon/etc
Salad
Broccoli
2/3 weight gainer shake

I think I gained a total of like 15 pounds in 4 years. I was so pissed.

You should talk to my doctors who do my blood work every year and give me a full heart workup because they seem to disagree with you in regards to my health. So i'll stick to what they are telling me but thanks

Doctors are people too and can get desensitized to what they see on a daily basis. At my heaviest I was going on 250 at 5'7". My BP was 135/95 and the nurse made no note of it. The only reason I knew about it was because I looked at the monitor. When I mentioned it to the doctor, my doctor said "That's not insanely high".

It's literally hypertension and the doctor was so used to seeing blood pressure in that range that I'm guessing her frame of reference shifted. Perhaps she looked at all my other factors, and noted that for my BMI it wasn't insanely high BP and I seemed fine otherwise so she didn't think anything of it. But it's objectively high blood pressure. And, objectively, I was extremely obese. And my doctor didn't seem to make a big deal of it.

So I'm not saying that your doctor is wrong. I'm just saying that if you're not insanely big relative to your population, maybe your doctor is thinking "at least he isn't about to have a heart attack like most of my patients."

I'm not trying to shite on you. Truly. I just think it does nobody any good to pretend that it's fine to be anywhere near 300 pounds at 5'10". Full stop, that is unhealthy.

Not so much a snob as it gets old eating the same thing after 3 days
If I make tacos it’s at least 4 meals worth of meat & to me frozen taco meat isn’t great so it’s not worth it to me to freeze
Tacos one night, taco salad the next then repeat
Then there’s leftover lettuce that ends up going bad

I really don’t eat much at meal time, 2 tacos no sides would be plenty for my dinner
I am trying IF & only eating 12-8

You are 5’7” and 250?????? You are right you should eat just what you are eating. Good for you... but a lot of this has to do with genetics and family background..... glad you are doing better.

I get this.

I'll make a huge pot of red beans and rice. That lasts my wife and I 4, sometimes 5 days. By that 4th day it's getting tough to eat. Not that I don't like leftovers, but I need a little variety.

I find this with red beans all the damn time. One lb of beans goes a LONG way and my wife doesn’t eat red beans so I’m stuck having to eat it. I’ve gotten to the point now I just automatically freeze half of it.

The problem is I love cooking in general so I’m inevitable always having to freeze stuff and then I don’t want to thaw it, just cook some more

that's fair when i said amount i was referring to portions size as opposed to calorie intake. I'm sure it was very high in calories so in that aspect you are correct.

I can promise you that if you got to 420lb at 5'10", your portions were out of whack as well. Portion distortion. At my heaviest I could eat 2 full plates of rice and gravy, mac and cheese, and some green beans.. and think that my portions were not that much more than other people. Your portions probably still are distorted.. I struggle with it as well. I want volume, I want to feel full and satisfied, but I don't feel satisfied unless I'm really full.

The days of being able to feel that way and lose weight at the same time are gone for me, though. That is the most difficult part of dieting still, and I think what I struggle with most and what I allow to hold me back most. To be more concise - dieting is now hard whereas in the past I could pretty easily lose weight without much hunger and could eat enough to be full at most meals. I have to learn to be okay with being uncomfortably hungry. As someone who has always been fat and absolutely hates feeling hungry, this is a shift in mindset that has to happen.

I eat 2-3 cups of vegetables at every meal already, so my diet is about at max volume. Any more fiber and I'm liable to shite myself

I sometimes wonder the same thing. I spend 30-40 weekends per year either on a boat or on the beach so I’m a bit self conscious of how I look with no shirt on. With that said, if my clothes tend to get a little tight or I see a pic where I’m not looking like your wife would want to frick me, I cut back and get my shite in order.

I don’t belong to a gym but I cycle, run and lift at home as much as possible. Diet is the biggest obstacle for fatties.

Same for me!

I used the Covid-19 confinement to my advantage. I chose to bump up my running +7 miles a day 5 days/week & spent the majority of my time OUT of the house, in the yard or working at the lake house.

Oh no doubt here. I was more referring to how it started in my youth. I know for a fact in my mid twenties when i really started putting on weight fast I was not eating like any normal human being was I was eating like i was training for worlds strongest man or the Olympics. But only thing I was training for was to watch Lost in my recliner

Yep, same. I'm strict during the week but not on weekends or during my SO's handful of days off a month.

So I might make a dish like cajun chicken stew, but I can't eat the leftovers in the following days because it isn't within a my strict calorie range for weekday eating.

So it has to be frozen and then it never gets defrosted because who wants to eat defrosted leftovers on a weekend when you can open wine and cook something fresh?
