Out of town for 10 days - Should I cut my grass lower than usual?

Going to be out of town for 10 days. Should I cut my St Aug one setting lower to prevent coming back to a jungle? Or should I just keep my mower at the highest setting and deal with bailing hay later?

don't cut it low. If you can't find someone to cut it for you after 5 days, just pick deck up high when you get back. Wait 2 days and drop to normal height.

I get my neighbors lawn guy to cut 1-2 times when we're out of town. He does a shitty job but better than coming home to a jungle

All of this right here.

I already cut it at the highest setting. All my neighbors use lawn guys that scalp their yard.

don't go low, just cut it a couple times in consecutive days when you return instead of chopping it all off at once.

If any rain can be expected soon after the cut, going low shouldn’t be a problem.. if no rain you run the risk of scorching the grass IMO which of course means little. Haha

This drives me nuts. One neighbor's yard guy cuts into my yard to get around their flower bed. I've had to talk to him multiple times about it. It's been a month since he's done it, but I'm sure I will arrive home any day now and find that scalped portion of my yard b/c he's too lazy turn off the blade and drive around. The next step is for me to plant something on the property line.

pay a neighborhood teenager to cut it a couple times.
problem solved and you won't screw up your lawn.
just tell them what number to set their mower on before they do it. it wont be perfect but better than coming home to 12" blades of grass.

I always let them use my mower when I got them to do that. Our old neighbors, back before they moved, their teenage son would let himself in the garage and use my mower then put it back. Seemed like he helped himself to a few cold ones from the basement fridge as well, in addition to what I paid him, but the yard looked good when I got home.

Sorry. Please don't tell my dad.

Sounds like they raised a great kid. A true American patriot.

How high is the highest setting?

I noticed he left the craft stuff alone and went after the cheap stuff. So I made sure there were some Coors in there the next time. Yard looked awesome.

I agree I'd try to find someone to cut it.
If you are truly on the highest setting that's likely 4 inches and you can probably take your ST Aug down to 3.5 or so. Then just have it cut once in the middle you being gone, cut it when you get back at 4 inches.
