No Espn broadcast the game.

There are 3 broadcast teams:

ESPN's, USC and LSU (Jimmy Taylor is one of the LSU team if I remember correct).

Live broadcast may have been only the USC team, LSU team is tape delayed due to Louisiana laws. Epsn team could have been live, most forget satellite dishes at the time picked the game up.

More pictures of the game are easy to come by as there are many photographers at the game including John M. (who has a lot of shots of the game),

ESPN signs are all over the stadium that night and was on the camera covers.

I have the USC and Epsn broadcast tapes of the game and there are a few people I know with the LSU broadcast team (all on Beta).

We got hosed because the whole right side of the USC OL jumped early. The play should have been blown dead and the facemask would have never happened.

So where can I watch this game in its entirety? This game was a full 10+ years before I was born, but it has fascinated ever I learned about it.

that is so odd because ESPN came to exist 2 weeks before the LSU USC game and if you google research it everything says their first football broadcast was 1982 but they must mean first live broadcast. I think the ESPN version you have was tape delay because also i remember one of the reasons that weekend that ticket prices were so in demand and so high is that the only live broadcast was to folks back in L.A. I wish i could find the LSU broadcast of the game even if it is just audio because the USC broadcast doesn't begin to capture the noise level (they must have been in a soundproof booth)

That afternoon my Peewee Football team played a team from New Orleans in the Superdome...I was 7. And I fumbled the football on my only rushing attempt.

That night we stayed and watched SMU vs Tulane.

All of our dad's had transistor radios while listening to the LSU/USC game.

So, as far as we know, does the LSU radio broadcast of this game exist in any form? I’d love to hear how loud it was. Guess that was before the days of popping in a cassette to record a radio broadcast, though.

We go through this every time the 1979 Southern Cal game was mentioned. ESPN did not start showing live college football games until the 1984 season. From its inception three weeks earlier through the 1983 season ESPN only showed games on a delayed basis later that following week.

The 1979 Southern Cal-LSU game was NOT on live TV.
