Most countries at odds with each other tend to do things that can get their soldiers killed, and otherwise undermine their influence. Sometimes, it can even happen with "allies".
If you want to go to war over it, fine; but the more pragmatic approach is diplomacy.
Russia, even in it's currently weakened condition, is NOT a country anyone wants to go to war with, and that includes us. And they don't want to go to war with us, either. You're talking about prideful nations that don't want to lose, and have the ultimate option in their back pocket.
