Mississippi legislature, why not put the flag to a referendum vote?

In 2001, the state voted almost 65% to keep the current flag. It wasn’t even close.
Now the state legislature is voting on a Saturday and moving like clockwork to get rid of it.
Why not put it to a state referendum like you did in 2001, you cowards?
I know why and so does anyone else with a brain. Because they know Mississippians will vote to keep it by over 55% easily.
Put it on the state ballot this November. A state’s flag is too important to be voted on and changed during a summer weekend without the community being able to comment on it.

People aren’t bought and paid for by the business lobby/money interests.

November is way too far away.

They afraid the state would vote to keep it.

Mississippi isn’t the state I think of when it comes to cloak and dagger politics. They must be using the Pelosi/Schumer playbook.

Because the cucks in the state government apparently feel the populace will vote to keep and they must be saved from themselves.
*And they don't want to be called racists.

Because the flag will stand if they do.
Like i said, it will be interesting to see who gets voted out and reelected

It Tate doesn’t veto, I wonder if he’ll be successfully primaried out in 2023.

Little known fact.
That 2001 referendum didn’t mean a thing. It was non binding. Mississippi constitution does not allow legislature to declare a binding referendum.
But the answer is: they are afraid it will go the wrong way. The compromise is for the legislature to get rid of current flag and have the people select the new flag.

I don't know. Reading the MSU and ole miss sports message boards the last week they are giddy it's changing. They only care if Willie Joe Simpson can run da football and shoot da hoop.

Tate came out today and said he’d sign the flag change.

What nonsense talk is this? Are you suggesting the plebiscite should decide such an important matter?
How quaint.
Greg Sankey alone makes that decision. Mississippi lawmakers will do as they are told by unelected bureaucrats and the citizens will like it.

Why is someone from Austin so against people from Mississippi voting against their own state flag?
Posted on 6/27/20 at 5:37 pm to Taxing Authority
They’re doing this over the weekend when constituents cannot contact their officials and voice their concerns because the staff offices are closed. No room or time for the public to comment.

If I was a Mississippi voter, I certainly would vote in favor of a change and I am probably as far from being “woke” as anyone on God’s green earth. So I would tend to agree. But it appears we will never know as that political decision will be made for the citizens instead of by them.
