Ok, fellow money experts. I've got some spare cash sitting around just waiting for the right investment opportunity. My problem is:

-real estate? Not yet...can't see the bottom.

-stocks? Are you kidding me?!?

-T-bonds? 4%...whoopee!

-CD's? (see 'T-bonds' above)

What would you do?

I've been parking some in 6 months CD's. 3.2% isn't great but it's staying warm until I'm ready to do something.

Yeah, that's one option. Thanks.

PS-When I saw that "Cash" had replied to my thread about "what to do with cash...?" I prepared myself for a smartaleck response. Guess I've spending too much time on the O-T these days.

Ok, such as...? As in, what companies? Or, do you just buy emerging market mutual funds?

My problem with investing in emerging markets is that I've worked so much in Eastern Europe, S.E. Asia and Africa that I have a pretty good knowledge of the regulatory environment in those markets. Fraud is very rampant and not even hidden in most cases. Say what we will about the U.S. markets these days, at least we try to prosecute frauds.

Invest in places where fraud isn't a problem, like South America.

Okay that was sarcasim.

Assuming 100 pesos currently in cash earning 2% tax free is available for investment. Let's go with diversified funds with low costs.

Let's invest 50% of it now, and leave 50% for after the election.

Emerging Market (VWO)
Emerging Market Equity (ADRE)
Large Cap Value (VTV)

If I put 10 pesos in each one, what do I do with the other 20 pesos?

With a good head and research there is always money to be made in stocks. They have lots of values out there right now.

So why are you immediately ruling out the US stock market? Now is a great time to buy. Many great companies are selling at depressed prices for no other reason than the fact that most people are like you and immediately rule out the stock market.

Think about it, say you have a great Company, call it ABC company, that was selling for $100 a share a year ago. Now the entire market is down on average and, due to the fears of most people like yourself, that stock is down to $50 a share even though nothing changed at the company. So now you can get the same great company for half the price!

I plan on buying as much stock as I can over the next few months in various companies. I suggest you do the same. Or at least move into an index fund of some sort.

I don't know or care where the bottom is. What I do know is that we are no where near the top. Therefore, if you invest now in an index fund, even if the market goes down further in the short-term, it will eventually go up much higher than today's prices in the future.

I haven't ... VTV is large cap value.
I still have 20 pesos to spend; If I spend them on US, then 3/5 will be US based. And I still have 50% to spend this Fall.

Why weigh heavily overseas?

1) I think 40% corporate taxes will continue to discourage the US economy. Add possible increase of capital gains tax.

2) Instead of looking at 1 year charts, look at 5 year charts; strong chance we still have a ways before we bottom out.

3) I'm thinking more mortgage banking fall out and a yet-to-be-determined oil supply interruption (hurricane, Straits of Hormuz, Israel bombs Iran, fill in the blank) will cause a temporary fall as well.

Mexican hookers?

Seriously, maybe 5 pesos into bonds or a REIT and 5 more pesos in your large cap fund or a S+P 500 index fund.
