If we were left behind in the incorporation of St. George, but we are not incorporated in the city of BR, how do we prevent Baton Rouge from annexing our neighborhood? If we can't be part of St. George, I'd definitely prefer to remain unincorporated. It just seems BR was able to rush annex all of those shopping areas seemingly without any opposition from those who live around them. If we allowed BR to legally do this, what's to stop a business deep in the heart of BR like Towne Center (unincorporated) from being annexed into St. George?

To be annexed into St. George (or BR) your property would have to be contiguous with their established limits. I doubt Town Center is contiguous with St. George.

If you are contiguous you can petition for annexation.

For neighborhoods it likely requires some sort of majority of property owners. I don't know that for sure.

I was in one of the in-between areas before moving away, but a good half of our neighborhood was already in the BR limits, so I don't know if it would have been legal to annex the rest into St. George.

Thank you for providing a real answer instead of the other worthless "alter" asshat responses I got. I am in the contiguous boundary of St. George. Thank you.

I believe there is a procedure that needs to be followed and the majority of property owners have to be for annexation. I don’t believe they can annex without following this procedure.

How about you start the movement to incorporate your area and call it New Baton Rouge?

He means the area between Denham Springs and Walker, bordered by I-12 on the south, and 190 on the north.

They found a way to do it in Seattle. Just start an autonomous zone. Set up barricades and road blocks. Then check ids at the boarder to control who comes in and out.

A city cannot annex (or even request) an area to be part of the city. The property owners must request that their land be annexed into the city, not the other way around.
