LSU has extended an offer to Chris Lockett of Newman High School and if he signs would be the first New Orleansa area high school player to sign with the Tigers since the late Matt Derenbecker signed with Trent Johnson. Prior to that New Orleans players were virtually non existent on the basketball team . Randy Livingston was the last prominent New Orleans recruit in 1994. Dale,Brady, Trent and Johnny never were able to be successful in that area as the recruits always headed to the Big East or Arizona and California.

Lets hope Will Wade can break through with Lockett and have a presence with top level players in that location.

There hasn’t been a ton of talent locally that was division one high caliber players. I know a few went to auburn and the chalmette kid was just odd all together.

The coming years finally have some real high end talent finally

Being at Country Day at the same time as Derenbecker and Ludwig made going to basketball games very fun

ETA: i'm assuming Ludwig was the last to sign besides Derenbecker, considering he was only one year older

Are we counting Reserve as extended New Orleans maybe or just too far out?

Jared Butler has turned into a nice player at Baylor already, we signed Smart over him that year. Will be interesting to see how both careers turn out.

I'm friends with his cousin and from what I was told it's a LSU and Baylor battle right now and a 3rd school could emerge.

New Orleans hoops have been horrible for a long time. In fact, Louisiana hasn't produced many big time players lately.

Keep an eye on Class of 2022 Power forward Kyran Ratliffe. 6-8 & 190. He plays at Booker T Washington. Plays EYBL with Randy Livingston program Fleur de lis. Holds offers from Houston, Arkansas and Georgetown. He can jump thru the roof. Still growing. Good all around game. Top 100 player in the class of '22. LSU has been showing interest but no offer yet.

I’m fairly certain that Cook is from New Orleans.
