Jim vs Barry...

For the record Barry bonds said Leyland was one of the best managers he has played for. I miss this era of sports. He couldn't get away with this today...

Does anyone remember what this was about specifically? I never knew what caused the argument.

That, and there would be 500 tweets about how Leyland is a racist. CNN, ESPN, Good Morning America, etc, etc, etc, would run countless stories about Leyland being a racist. After a few days he'd be forced to either grovel and apologize or be fired.

Men used to be able to argue and sometimes physically fight to work out their differences, then respect each other once they did.

It won’t stop CNN from trying to cancel him today. We probably gave someone the idea to go run to Twitter just now.

No he wouldn't because Bonds himself loved Leyland as a manager.

'Growing up you have a lot of coaches. There have been maybe two major coaches that I've admired,' Bonds said. 'One was in Little League and he passed away before I finished that. Jim Leyland to me is the best manager I've ever played for and best friend and best person a younger person could look up to. He's probably the most positive person as a manager that I've ever been around.'

Dan Lebatard has a story about how he asked Leyland for an on-camera interview in 97 when he was managing the Marlins

Said Leyland cursed him out for like 10 minutes about how he was to busy and hated the media. After he was done cursing Leyland asked him “Will this help you?” Lebatard says yes & then Leyland says “alright let’s go F#%+ing do this”

Bonds was always a sniveling little fricking bitch. He’s the one that I hope reporters never allow into the HOF. frick him.

Bonds had showed up one of the coaches and I believe it might have been in the early ‘90s. Bonds was unhappy with his contract and had bitching about it all ST. So I think this had been a slow boil that wasn’t just about one Bonds transgression.

ETA: 1991. Story below. Bill Virdon, former Pirate player and manager, was the aggrieved coach.

Pre-steroids Bonds may have been the beat all-around player I saw play (grew up in ‘70s and ‘80s). Post-steroids Bonds is best all-around hitter I’ve ever seen.

And fast forward, Brian Kelly will tear into his team at this similar rate again and he won’t be fired.

A guy was just wearing an OAN t shirt! And he wasn’t fired
