Is it not possible that guy was just drunk as hell? I've seen some heavily drunk folks go from incoherent and lethargic to wildly combative in a very short period.

Looks to me like this is an open and shut "case." You can see his arm pointing back in the direction of the pursuing officer with weapon in hand.
It's over. 100% justified and will be found as such in court.

Dude tried to taze a police officer in the head which would have killed him

I think the initial BAC was .108 in the video. I think .08 is DUI in most states. Some might be .06 as MADD is pretty powerful.

Understatement.
I have a friend who used to be a cop and she'd always say she'd write to MADD every time a few weeks before she had a DWI trial. They'd show up in MADD shirts and fill the front row and alternate blank stares between the accused and the judge. It was almost a guaranteed conviction every time.

I don’t know what other way the cops were supposed to react. The guy fought and managed to take the taser from one of the officers. Then as he starts running, he turns and fired the taser again at the cop. Literally a split second after you hear the taser you hear the pop pop pop from the other cop returning fire. This idiot should have taken the L and dealt with the dui. Instead he acts a fricking fool and is now dead. It’s not gonna stop the dregs of society from defending him though.
