re: We Turned Our Backs on God

God is all-good and created all things. He created all of us in His image. We had one simple rule above all others to love one another as He loved us. There's a million reasons we all fail at this.
Even If you don't believe in Him, and you live your life following "natural law" - the 10 commandments are still a reasonable guide to living a morally just existence in virtually every culture on the planet, regardless of religion.
God's gift to us was the world and having dominion over its entirety. What an awesome gift, symbol of love and trust, and awesome responsibility He gave us.
Our free will continues to move us farther away from Him. Nowhere in the Divine plan of God was there a desire to see His creation treat life, the earth, and Him the way we do right now in this day and age.
Luckily for us, our God is a loving and forgiving God. It's not too late to pray for yourself, your family, others, and the world.
He may not always come right when you want Him to, but He is always on-time.
Pray.

quote:Honest question: do you think all Christians remain Christians simply out of fear?
You believe in Hell.
Fear mongering tactic to scare people into behaving/believing a certain way.
It's so obvious.

quote:Incorrect. It applies whether you believe it or not. God either exists or He doesn't. Believing He doesn't exist when He does doesn't change what He has done in history or what He requires of us. It's precisely why Christians preach the Gospel to unbelievers (non-Christians); we realize the reality of the situation even for those who don't believe it to be true.
Again, this is entirely self-fulfilling and only applies if you already believe in god as creator.
quote:Sounds like you don't understand translation or transmission.
It also doesn’t change the fact that humans have changed this message (meaning the Bible) constantly over time. Even taking out the exclusions of certain texts from the Bible and the multitude of doctrinal changes that have occurred within all sects of Christianity, the mere act of translating the ‘message’ over the course of 2,000 or so years has inherently distorted and modified its content
There are thousands of manuscripts (fragments and whole sections) that are used to translate the Bible going back to the first century. When an inconsistency exists, it's known and noted, and the vast majority of the inconsistencies stem from misspellings, having a letter in the wrong place, or word coming in front of or behind another; the meaning is known and understood with relative few major changes/inconsistencies within the various documents.
The sheer volume of manuscript evidence we have actually works in our favor for knowing with certainty that we have the complete word of God. Ever check the footnotes of an English Bible? There's a whole discipline devoted to this topic.

When did it become complete, in your estimation?
Certainly not at the time god would have relayed the message or at the time the texts were written because both of those things far predate the Bible. Does a council of humans meeting centuries after the fact retroactively complete the word of god?

Even the Pope is the antithesis of what a Pope representing the catholic faith should be for the church and its people. He caters to Muslims, Homosexuality, and a myriad of un-Godly things that directly oppose what is traditional and of the Word of God.
Matthew 22:35-40
New International Version
35 One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: 36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
Maybe I am missing something but I don't see where Jesus list exceptions to what he calls the second greatest commandment. I didn't see an except homosexuals and other religions anywhere in the loving your neighbor.

I'm not the best example of a good Christian, and I don't regularly attend church on Sunday. Personally, I don't think you have to. I do, however, find myself always praying an awful lot in private. Moreover, having conversations with God.
This ends only one way. Millions of Americans get on their knees every day, pray to God, and keep Holy the Lord's day (Attending church on Sunday) or the chaos will get worse until these 3 things happen.
The Bible explains it.

In Prayer, always.
Heavenly Father Lord, may all those in this world feel your Mercy and Grace this day Lord. I come before you and humbly ask to keep your hands upon our country Lord. I pray Lord for changed hearts and minds that we might know you Lord. That the message of Salvation for all who would ask be put forth for all to see. As you fill the spirit Lord lead us with love in out hearts and peace in our minds. I pray Lord that our country will strive through your Salvation and Love, to come together as Your People in Christ. In Jesus name.

No. And further, you don’t have any idea what it is. But you’re throwing out bumper sticker phrases in the discussion. Attaboy.

God's perfect and unchanging goodness is the foundation for objective moral reasoning and truth. When you reject God, you embrace the tools necessary to make the world whatever you want it to be rather than how it was created to be. This includes the perpetuation of evil throughout societies, even in the name of "good".
This is exactly why the state invented God...as have all states throughout the history of man...to dictate to man how he would live. The king knew he needed a higher power for the subject to answer to and therefore created that higher power....and we still pretend it exists.

Find you a good one and start going to church, baw. There is lot of things you don’t have to do, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t. Don’t “forsake the assembling of ourselves together”. Part of the reason for the societal rot you point out is the lack of community bonds, many which are formed in church.
