Has anybody had any POSITIVE experiences in Gainesville?

Me and a few buddys booked our trip to the swamp yesterday. Flying into Tampa to check out Busch Gardens then driving into Gainesville that Friday. All I’ve ever read/heard is how much of a shite hole it is and how terrible the fans are, but it’s one of the few away games we haven’t been to so we have to knock it out and it should be a great game.
So I’ve heard all the bad, anybody actually go and have a GOOD time? Cool bars to check out? Hopefully we get out of there with a win, I have nothing but pure hate for the gators

Gainesville is a cool college town...but the fans are very obnoxious...
Tailgating is terrible and most people just go to bars near the stadium...
BEWARE YOU CANNOT WALK AROUND AND DRINK LIKE YOU CAN AT LSU...THEY HAVE POLICE MEN WHO RIDE AROUND ON BIKES ISSUING TICKETS IF THEY SEE YOU DRINK ON PUBLIC PROPERTY....THEY DO NOT ISSUE WARNINGS EITHER...YOU CAN ONLY DRINK ON PRIVATE PROPERTY
YOUR BETTER OFF JUST DRINKING AT A BAR LIKE MOST FANS DO..
IM ALWAYS GLAD TO SEE THE GATORS LOSE...GO BULLDOGS

That’ll work, that’s what we normally do at away games anyway. Setting up on the road can be a hassle

I took a great shite at the Hotel. Besides that, not really.

We’ll be there as well. It should be a night game because UGA and auburn play that week. Should be a fricking classic

Sure, been there 6 times for LSU games, only one did I find the worst of their fans any more obnoxious than the worst of ours. Other 5 great experiences. LSU is 4-2 in the games that I've gone to. Strip around the stadium has lots of bars and restaurants. I had a good time at the ones I went to...the Swamp, Grog House are the only two I really remember the name of.

Gainesville girls are REALLY easy

I remember their tailgating sucked. Also on a trip driving through figured I would stop and grab lunch there since it’s a college town and college towns tend to have a few good lunch options. Stopped to get gas near campus. Guy gets out of his truck (had jorts on) walking barefoot through what was one of the more oiled covered grounds I had seen at a gas station. I go inside the gas station to watch a different person making a coffee, they walk over to the cooler, open a gallon of milk to put a splash in his coffee and put it back in the cooler. It’s a different bred down there.

Yup. Positive for gonorrhea and syphilis... twice there.

Went to watch us play them in basketball two years ago. Wife and I sat in an upper middle section, mostly surrounded by older alums. I wore an LSU shirt and she wore her UF stuff, and the fans we talked to were cool about it. We won a close good game on Waters’ last minute heroics, if memory serves. I would’ve been salty if we lost because we were the better team for sure.
At the two football games I went to there were a few obnoxious fans but nothing too extreme. I did get pretty drunk and scream into the camera that was panning by after we scored near the goal line I was sitting by, and held up the LSU logo on my shirt. That didn’t win me many friends near by, but also we sat next to an FSU-UF couple who couldn’t have cared less about the game it seemed.

Not really? I was with my husband and a group of other couples — four couples maybe? I was scared walking through the parking lot of the stadium.
Tailgating was fine — we were in someone’s yard and had our own stuff and people around us were LSU. At the game girl the row in front of us puked on her friend. We got our asses whipped — pretty sure it was 2008.

I went to a LSU game there. I had broken my ankle (full cast to knee). The people we tailgated next to called the UF maintenance and they picked me up and brought me to the stadium then picked me up and brought me back afterwards. Pretty nice gesture. Although got crucified in the stadium and out but that’s normal any where.

The Swamp has toned down a bit since Urban left. When Spurrier has it going in the 90s and early 2000s, it was a nightmare road game for fans and players. Same when Urban was there. Hasn’t been nearly as bad since 2012 ish.

The fans suck. Don't sit on the Florida side even if it's to get out of the beating sun on the LSU side. They will yell at you the entire time and offer to pay for your plane ticket home (even though they never follow through). The Social was a pretty welcoming bar. Mothers was a chill little pub spot with very friendly people. You'll get yelled at all after the game, but try to find some friendly people willing to show you around. We ended up finding some young folks that showed us a decent time. Tailgating sucks there and there isn't much to do except to bar hop on gameday.

Went Saban's first year - the brook trout look game.
I went in not expecting to win that game, our main trip was Disney World and the game was the side trip.
Fla wasn't bad, it was a day game though and very hot.
Fans were fine to my group.
I thought the gameday atmosphere outside stadium was kind of tame, maybe since it was a day game.

I went in 2016. It was fine. We heard people chanting Troy to us the whole game, but not so much afterward.

Is it not possible to just drink somewhere besides the campus?

I’ve been 3 or 4 times and never had a negative.... brought my son to his first game when he just turned 2 in 2014.... love the swamp, to me one of the best road games. I don’t know what everyone else does to cry about it. Hoping to go back again this year
