Ruger 10/22 Options

I bought the American Rimfire earlier this year and ever since then I've been craving the 10/22. Recent events have encouraged me to go ahead and "pull the trigger".
My local outdoors store has (limited) stock of the 1103 model with the wood stock, and searched sportsman's outdoor superstore and was surprised to see so many different 10/22 models and options.
Is the basic 1103 cheap model just as upgradable as any other 10/22? Or is there something retarded about this 1103 model that should make me stay away? It seems to be about the only one in stock anywhere, which makes me suspicious.
Does my question make sense?
Also, someone once told me my American Rimfire cartridge works with a 10/22, is that also true?

Mine was just a cheap carbine model when I bought it.
Replaced the barrel, stock, trigger and barrel again.
I’m pretty certain that they are all basically the same except for the regular and the take-down model.

If you are planning on upgrading w everything get the cheapest model possible. Academy sells a polymer stock model they doesn't have any iron sight for $199. I bought on on Saturday.

Same. Got a TacSol barrel, Hogue overmolded stock, Volquartsen bolt release and buffer, and a Power Custom hammer and sear kit. She’s a tack driver and pleasure to shoot, even more so suppressed.

dam! what's your favorite round in that one?
Also of note, I just realized the basic model doesn't even have strap mounts

I mostly shoot federal, as far as bulk ammo, without any hiccups. CCI standard velocity is my favorite though with the suppressor.

I got my wife one for valentines day a few years ago.
The 10/22 is the i-phone/f-150 of the gun world. Soooo many aftermarket parts and ways to customize it.
From what I understand, the guts of all of them are the same.

The receiver and action and the same no matter which model you are talking about. Now if you bought the model 1103 and wanted to put a bull barrel on it you would have to also get a different stock to clear the bull barrel.
Short answer: If you buy the model 1103 you can turn it into what ever kind of 10/22 you want.

To answer this part of the question the 1103 is the "Standard" model carbine and probably the most popular model so that is the one that pretty much everyone who sells a 10/22 keeps in stocks and sells. The 3 base models that most everyone stocks are in order of commonality:
1103 (Birch stock blued carbine)
1151 (Syn stock blued carbine)
1256 (Syn stock stainless carbine)
Outside of those 3, the takedown version, and the new optics ready version they are almost always special order or distributor exclusives.

mine is almost identical, however after lots of reading etc, i went with the Kidd barrel. i did not get it threaded though, id love to have your setup with that can and all. i went with the nikon rimfire scope and have been very happy with it
i got the cheapest one i could get, blued, wood stock and built it from there. also have the anniversary synthetic stainless i use as just kind of a throw around gun

buy the cheapest one possible. All you need is the receiver, which you can buy from Brownell's with a rail cast in already.

I'd look pretty hard at a t/cr22 if I were in that market. Most 10/22 parts fit and it has last round bolt hold open.
