A retired St. Louis police captain who became a small-town police chief was found fatally shot early Tuesday outside a pawn shop that was looted after protests over the death of George Floyd turned violent.

David Dorn, 77, was discovered on the sidewalk in front of Lee's Pawn & Jewelry in St. Louis around 2:30 a.m., said Police Commissioner John Hayden. He said Dorn, who retired from the St. Louis Police Department in 2007 and had been serving as police chief of Moline Acres, Missouri, since 2008, was killed when he apparently tried to stop the looting of the shop.

"David Dorn was exercising law enforcement training that he learned here," Hayden said. No further details were immediately released.

His widow, Ann Marie Dorn, told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that her husband was a friend of the pawn shop's owner and frequently checked on the business when alarms went off.

Black lives matter only when they're killed by whites. This instance doesn't further the narrative of XiNN or PMSNBC.

This movement is bigger than him.

While his death was tragic, it was needed.

Where are all the rabid board liberals and people defending the protests? What about this poor man and his family?

It absolutely matters. He was a brave man who died at the hands of murdering cowards and thieves.

It is sad that some people who choose to mourn a man like George Floyd and condemn his killers, can't or won't find it in themselves to do the same for David Dorn.

One of these men was a good person who lived a life of service to others. Neither of them deserved to be killed.

What are the chances that his Go Fund Me is anywhere near the level of Floyd’s?

His black life doesn’t matter to the movement because it isn’t useful or profitable.

It matters to me. It should matter to everyone. But what should be and what is have been inexplicably switched around.

Just to be clear, since the media isn’t giving you these names, these are all innocent African Americans (along with David Dorn) who have died in the violence surrounding the protests.

He didn't have a long criminal history, wasn't being arrested for committing a crime, wasn't on drugs, wasn't resisting arrest.

He was actually a decent man.

Therefore, he doesn't matter.

twitter mob: Uncle Tom!!!!

abandoned fathers, low education, making babies you can't afford at ages that you're pretty much still a child yourself, calling out their own race when a person is trying to prosper and get out of the hood, killing each other with guns and drugs at alarming rates.......those are the true issues in the black community, but you have to have self awareness and take accountability for your actions for any of those things to matter. and since they don't for the vast majority of the projects...........MY SKIN COLOR GETS ME PULLED OVER AND MY BROTHERS KILT!

are there bad cops? of course......black and white ones.

are there racists cops and people? of course, black and white ones.

does the media pick and choose which deaths should get air time? of course, they know what divides the nation and keeps the agenda going for this division.
