Would you shoot someone out of mercy?

Got to be kind of long to lay out a scenario.
20 years ago I was on my way back from a college class. It was about 10:00 A.M. and I was in the middle of nowhere.
I came upon an overturned car. I would later learn the guy had run off the road and went up the gravel embankment of some rail road tracks. Evidently this happened at a high rate of speed because the car must have gotten airborne enough to land upside down.
I was the only person there and the car was fully engulfed in flames. The guy was still in the car but I could not tell....wouldn't have mattered because he had to already be dead.
Thinking about this the other day I began to wonder what I would have done if I had gotten there earlier and found the guy trapped in a burning car and him begging to be shot. I think I would have had to.
What would you have done?
P.S. State Troopers later concluded that the guy had a massive heart attach as he approached the tracks which caused the accident in the first place. How the hell they could have determined that given what little had to left is beyond me....perhaps just solace for the family.

frick no. Imagine trying to defend yourself in court when their family inevitably says you killed their relative.

No way. Good way to catch a charge or get sued by the family.

Nah, they'll be dead soon enough and Im not opening myself up to that sort of liability

I get it. Just not sure I could listen to it in that moment.

Then you’d be sitting in jail for murder since he died at your hands and not as a result of the accident. Seriously why would you even ask this question?

I just don't think I could listen to someone wailing to be spared from having to burn to death if I had the means to save them that fate.
I mean hell, I would want someone to do it for me if I found myself in that situation. Wouldn't everyone?

Great story came out of the SAS guys that got captured by the Iraqis in the first Gulf War.
One of their guys got injured and they had to leave him behind as they escaped and evaded from the fast approaching enemy. The injured guy told his Sergeant to shoot him so he wouldn't be captured.
The Sergeant recounted how he told the guy: "You watch too many movies mate. See you in a bit."
The Sergeant said they laughed their asses off about it after the war and the guy was damn glad he didn't shoot him.
You can't ever be sure what is about to happen. Would I do my best to get the guy out of the car and / or put the fire out? Yes. Would I shoot him? Hell no. Can you imagine if you popped him in the head and a fire truck pulled up 10 seconds later and put the flames out?
