This. I don't think that people understand what kind of people some Denham inhabitants are.

Then that’s a problem in itself and proves the protesters point

EDIT: Since this post was made, our organizers have spoken directly with Denham Springs Police Chief Shannon Womack, face to face, and he has offered up his support and presence for this march, as well as other officers, to ensure the safety of both the community and the protesters.
He asks that NO GUNS OR WEAPONS are brought, as well as NO VIOLENCE. He also asks that we refrain from blocking Range Avenure. He believes, and I tend to agree for the most part, that our voices can still be heard and our message can still be effective without blocking traffic.

Let’s do this, Denham Springs! ????????

Hey, if this is all true and this well organized while actually speaking to the police....I have absolutely no issue with this. Power to them.

Meh. That's mostly deep in the woods of LP now. There are a lot of middle class families in the areas that border BR now (Watson, DS, Walker).

At this point in my life I really don’t care..... I’ll drive down that street with zero worries. I’m gonna die anyway so what does it matter????? You know what matters????? If even ONE of them shoot at me.... it WILL be a problem for them and anyone around them.

Ya see.. that’s gonna be the problem tonight. White folk in DS arent gonna take lightly IF something erupts... if all is peaceful then great.....

Why would you drive down that street at all?????

Back in high school in the 90's I gave two of my black classmates a ride home after a basketball game. I can't remember if they lived on Rodeo or one of the side streets.

It still stands out in my memory that some people were standing on the side of the street at two spots and were trying to flag me down. My boys said don't you dare stop. Keep rolling.

When I was working at Exxon I would go to lunch with our safety guy occasionally, and he was black. He grew up in North BR and knew all the backroads. We were taking backroads to wherever we were going that day and as we passed this certain street he said, "don't EVER go down that street right there." I said, "OK. Got it. You won't ever catch me on that street after dark." He said, "NO, dude, don't EVER go down that street. Night or day." Surreal.

Question: if protests are generally peaceful, why are businesses where the protests take place being boarded up?

I agree. I've lived there for 15 years or so now. I've met a few that grew up there that seem to be on the harsh side when it comes to race, but not many.

Agree. And it's especially true since PeeJ is saying things might get bad.

I haven't heard of any real racial problems in Denham since some time in the 80's. Some stupid cracker was in that area, not sure what he meant to accomplish, but he fired a gun that hit a black guy in the head and killed him. Things got pretty tense for a while during that time.

Thought I heard he just wanted to scare them and shot over them, but messed up.

It's just a street with some old houses. People sitting on the porch and kids playing in the road.

I used to work with a guy that started out as a DS cop before changing careers and he said the cops wouldn't even go down there in the 60s and 70s.

It didn't look as bad to me as a place like Gus Young at North Acadian in NBR. That's an area I'd avoid during the daytime.

Yeah, my post was talking about a street in North BR. Not Denham.

Gotcha. Yeah, I generally avoid all of NBR now other than the occasional trip to Tony's

The "black" areas in Denham and Walker are fine. I wouldn't be concerned in those areas. The meth looking trailers in the really rural parts scare me more.

Yeah, this was some side road off Hollywood or Plank.
