This giant was caught in a public lake today, not a stocked pond. Been fishing there for 40 years and never seen anything like it there.

That large operculum made me think redear but there isn’t any red.
Don’t think it’s any purebred native sunfish Either natural hybrid or pond escapee
Please put this on the Louisiana fishing report on fb and watch the replies

I’m not sure the name but those are pretty plentiful up here on the Tennessee River. I’ll try and figure out the name.
I think it’s just called a bluegill

It doesn't look like a coppernose to me.

Just for reference, this is a hybrid coppernose from my pond.

Not that for sure. I will say it looks nothing like any other bluegill I've seen from that lake (Kincaid).

I have been fishing in Bayou Black for 30+ years that my friend is a Blue gill

Just to be clear, a Coppernose is a bluegill.

I just think it's a hybrid sunfish. Not a coppernose. Coppernoses have really distinct facial markings and that one doesn't have it.

That is what we call a bream in Georgia LOL...its a nice one. I think it is either a bluegill or a shellcracker but it could be some sort of hybrid....but in North Georgia they are all bream LOL.. nice fish! Nothing funner to catch in my opinion and mature ones are very worthy adversaries...in the south we are blessed with "big" bream and therefore they seem relatively easy to catch....but big doesn't mean mature in the south....a big mature bream, and if that isn't some sort of hybrid I would say it was mature as well as big, is as difficult to trick into a boat as any fish that swims...GOOD JOB!

I just think it's a hybrid sunfish.
Like someone dumped it?

That's one thing I know it's not.

As long as I've been fishing I still can't identify one panfish from another. They're all fricking bream to me
