Friends,

You struggled mightily with the last photo challenge. It took old man glassman's recognition of the restaurant's carpet to nail down Crozier's. Crozier's, of course, was the greatest French restaurant in New Orleans history, originally starting out in New Orleans East.

The original location at 7033 Read Lane served Crozier's classics from 1976-1980. The building is still there, although now it is home to Mathurin Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. The 2700 square foot building sold for just 59,000 a few years ago. I doubt many people who enter realize they are entering a building that served some of the finest dishes ever in America.

In 1980, the Croziers bought their own building and moved Crozier's just a few blocks southwest at the corner of Reed and Bundy. Most of you will be familiar with Rodney's Sno-balls -- it was next to that building. The Croziers finally headed west to Metairie in 1988, landing at 3216 West Esplanade, just west of Causeway. This was the Crozier's I knew. I loved when Chef Gerard, as he told me to call him, came table side to clean some Dover sole before serving it. It was one of the best fish dishes I've ever had.

The Croziers sold their restaurant to someone in 2000. It did not do well, and Chef Gerard and his wife opened Chateaubriand Steakhouse in Mid-City in 2001. After flooding in Katrina, the Croziers moved to Tennessee, where he became a greeter at one of my favorite stores, Walmart. He died in 2009 in Tennessee.

Today, we switch gears, a little. Below is the dining room of this restaurant. No other hints will be given until tomorrow morning, to see just how good some of you may be.

Yours,
TulaneLSU

Friends,

Since no one got it, I will make this one obvious with the next three clues:

1. The head chef taught one of the most famous chefs in New Orleans and ran the restaurant that served my all-time favorite Caesar salad.

2. "No one understands my ills, nor the terror that fills my breast, who does not know the heart of Mother."

3.

Yours,
