Multiple buildings, including businesses, homes and a construction site were engulfed in flames Thursday morning as fire crews across Minneapolis worked to contain the blaze.

Fires broke out at businesses in the area of Lake Street after demonstrations following the police-involved death of George Floyd turned chaotic. An Autozone, a Cub Foods, and an apartment complex under construction, among others, were reportedly impacted by the fires.

Let's see if this thread sticks.

I'm referencing racist OT posters in general who would have been good candidates to get a thread deleted for racism. I missed the deleted thread.

Seeing stuff like this really just upset me even more.

I get being upset that George was killed. It was a travesty, and it makes it worse that 3 other officers were on scene and did absolutely nothing.

I too was saddened by that killing. But wtf is burning down buildings and looting businesses gonna change. They are destroying their own communities. You are doing nothing but pissing people off, which will also solve nothing.

I see it as a young child throwing a temper tantrum. My mom wouldn't let me eat cake, so in return I completely wreck my room. Throwing toys against the wall, breaking my own toys, and leaving my room in shambles.

The result, my mom made me clean my room up spotless, she didn't buy me any new things for everything I broke, and I still didn't get any cake.

Don’t worry they had a good reason for looting

Perhaps they're just the result of anger spilling over because years and decades of calling out these unjust killings doesn't seem to have had any effect. Perhaps there is spilled over anger that Floyd was detained and presumably being arrested for a forged instrument, murdered in the process, and the murderer has not yet been arrested. As MLK once said, riots are the voice of the unheard. Riots have been part of American culture since our founding. It looks counterproductive to us sitting in the comfort of our own homes, but I'd imagine there's a palpable anger and frustration on the ground in Minneapolis. And you get a group of angry and frustrated people together, add in the police force they're angry and frustrated with, have some tear gas and rubber bullets deployed by that police force, and things are going to turn nasty.

Considering this is the same congressional district that voted in Ilhan Omar, I cant say that I’m surprised that all of this is going on there.

I promise you there’s no shortage of white guilt and self-hating white people in the world.

It’s hard to gain a lot of sympathy for your cause when you inflict collateral damage on innocent parties with no regard for their newly found undue pain and suffering.

I get being upset, but riots that destroy and loot businesses that had no party in the incident that has everyone upset is not the right avenue to channel that anger. You just make your own community worse.
