I’ve been in the market for a low mileage used truck to replace my 2008 Tacoma. Don’t necessarily need a new truck now but would like to strike while the iron is hot. Anyone have any idea on how this might play out?

Rentals usually carry 0-3 year old vehicles. Good luck finding a 12 year old one.

Hertz Car Sales

Their vehicles are always on sell. Good luck. Trucks are not the most popular vehicles for rental companies.

My bad. Half read your post and thought you were looking for a 2008 Tacoma. I deserve all of the downvotes I'll get.

I saw they are beginning to liquidate some vehicles but not sure exactly how they are doing that as of right now. Guessing they should offer deals soon on vehicles to get them off the lots soon

I'd guess that most car rental companies have more rigorous maintenance schedules than the average consumer. You'd probably be fine buying an old Hertz vehicle.

Since they filed Chapter 11 you should start seeing some good deals in 5-7 years

Not a bad thought, but the deals won’t happen for a while with them. Overall, there should be some deals in early fall.

What is it with people not getting this spelling correctly? I see it all the time online. Is it our education system at work?

Just bc they filed bankruptcy doesn’t mean they will be selling off assets for cheap. They may need to liquidate some of the fleet but it isn’t like they can give it away. They owe money to creditors and the creditors aren’t going to sit back and let them sell things for well below market value. In other words, you may see an uptick in the volume being sold and that may result in a slight drop in price but I wouldn’t be planning my purchase around this bankruptcy filing.

I am telling you this from personal experience. Those rentals are so badly ragged on the road the 3 year old is basically a 12 year old.

Goodluck. Every vehicle I’ve ever rented larger than a 4 Dr Sedan was driven hard and beat to hell.

Not that I’d know anything about buying $75 worth of insurance and returning an Explorer dragging a bumper.
