Rice is paying LSU $3.5 million this season to play in Houston

Which is about 1/4 of their total annual football revenue!
And so this is why we put Rice on our non conference schedule!

Rice obviously posts on TD.

and on top of that, there probably won't be any fans in the stands..so thats a big whammy to their profits

That’s weird to think about
Usually we’re paying people to come here and whip their arse. Now we get paid to go whip some arse

Wish ULL would pay us to go to Lafayette and empty out Cajun field by halftime.

Sounds like if that game would be the first to go if COVID effects the season in any way or damages the bottom line for Rice too much

Rice has sponsors that are putting up much of that money.

I'm not so sure. I imagine the deal is we share the gate, and with 30,000+ LSU fans there, that would be about 29,000 more tickets than a typical Rice game.

We recruit the frick out of Houston too. That is a big reason we are willing to do this.
There will be hundreds of Houston area high school kids and coaches there.

Or take it over

I’m sure LSU will negotiate in good faith
As the contract probably stipulates
In event of unforeseen events
Most contracts have a clause for that

It's a rent-a-win for Rice.

This arrangement has the disturbing corollary of a husband paying another man to bed the payer’s wife.

Trigger warning: Rice runs the toss dive a lot. I watched them play La Tech last year, which likes the short side option. I had the shakes by the time it was over.

The money pretty much evens out over the three games the teams will play. LSU paid Rice $1.4 million for the 2018 game, receives $3.5 million for the 2020 game, and will pay out $2 million for the 2024 game in Baton Rouge.
