Any idea how to kill it or run it off? I don't even know if that is legal.

It's very much not legal to harm or harass a hawk.
Keep your cats inside ;)

Was it a really Small cat?
You likely can’t do much physically to the bird since it’s federally protected.

Yes...small young cat. Just disappeared yesterday. Could have been something else, but, I know there is a hawk that lives in the pine tree on the front of our property.

I’m in BR in the city and we have had coyotes recently taking cats - mine got treed instead of eaten do my kids were happy.
You hearing coyotes at night? May need to lock them in a shed at night.

Yep , he gone. Our vet keeps sending out warnings about any pets under 12lbs due to amount of hawks in the area, to not leave them unattended.

Keep them inside any outdoor animal especially a young cat that isn’t feral doesn’t stand a chance. If hawks do not get them during the day owls and coyotes will take at night.

why you wanna go after the poor hawk? he was just out jogging and minding his own business.

What the hell? Hawk doing what hawks do. He also eats rodents, snakes etc. shouldn’t leave small domestic animals outside.

Old fella years ago used to raise fighting cocks. Hawks used to give him hell so he put up 5 tall poles around his property with small steel traps on the top of them.... Wala... No more hawk trouble

I'd much rather have seen him catch his head in one of those traps.

I have no problem with a man taking effective measures to protect his animals, livestock, family, property from wild apex predators.

Nor do I. Unless he's using raising his animals to fight other animals for a stupid backward arse "sport" or for money.

Coyotes kill outdoor pets pretty often in our neighborhood. Also in BR city limits.

birds of prey are no threat to property or family.
that they catch and eat the occasional cat is an ecological benefit

Y'all must have some big hawks. The hawks here aren't big enough to take anything other than a week old kitten. Or am I misjudging the hawk?

That hawk is just doing hawk stuff. Why would you kill it?
Keep your cat inside until it’s too big to carry off. Or just keep it inside indefinitely because it will probably start killing little birds and creatures at some point...kinda like a hawk.
The other day I was sitting outside with my dogs. One of them is a puppy. He’s ab 40lbs. A hawk flew down about 6 feet over us and checked him out. Did I want to kill the hawk? No. I def looked at him in awe and thought about how cool he was.
Hawk > cat
