Great Horned Owls can easily do the same with a small cat.
They may be present if you live near sparsely or moderately wooded areas.

re: Hawk on our property...took one of our cats.
We had a hawk in a tree in our yard.
One evening the hawk flew down and took a squirrel that was maybe 10 ft from me running from the hawk. It was an experience to see how good of a hunter they are.

Then I was practicing my casting a plastic frog in my backyard and that hawk took my plastic frog. That was fun that sucker flew all over and he finally dropped the frog.

A really fat large main coon cat that roams around my area ended up tumbling with that hawk killing it. That cat put a butt whooping on that hawk. The hawk came down and that cat pounced on him. It was over in no time.

As far as coyotes I seen 2 crossing around Stumberg near Jefferson at 11 pm coming home from an LSU football game party. They crossed the road between the art frame shop and that newer neighborhood by the apartments at the corner.

Yep , he gone. Our vet keeps sending out warnings about any pets under 12lbs due to amount of hawks in the area, to not leave them unattended.

A 3 pound hawk ain't carrying a 12 pound dog genius.

I seen a Maine coon tear pounce the heck out of a hawk. At first I seen the hawk coming. That cat turned around at the right time to jump up grabbing the hawk by the neck. Then the cat pushed the hawk under him to take the claws out of the fight. Once that cat got up the hawk was flapping one wing going in circles. The cat came back to finish the hawk off.

re: Hawk on our property...took one of our cats.
I had a cat give birth under my house once. She moved most but left a few. I crawled under the house retrieved the last few, put them in a box wrapped in a kitchen towel figuring she would retrieve them. Went out of town for the weekend and when I came back the cats were gone. One morning drinking coffee outside I notice something hanging on a branch about twenty feet up in a tree. It was the kitchen towel.

Did you see it happen or just jumping to conclusions. Young cats wander off, return days later, sometimes. Ours stayed gone two years

Edit to add: coyotes are everywhere now

Our dog is 10-15 lbs. No way a hawk could pick him up. Any owl around here couldn't either. A coyote or big bobcat could kill him.

A hawk for a cat?

(sounds like a good trade)

eta: I have a nesting pair that helps keep the squirrel population in check. That they also help keep away the cat's let lose upon the world is a plus. Everything seems to takes notice when a hawk's shadow is seen on the forest floor. It's kinda of cool to see.

There was a huge arse owl in our neighborhood for a few weeks. We could see it chilling in the tree. I saw it fly off a few times and the wingspan was massive

My cats collar was ripped and shredded one day and she was timid as hell. I think that Owl tried to get my cat and her fat arse broke the collar

May not get him somewhere up in a tree if the animal is too heavy then they get dropped and injured. A friend’s cat came home with a broken pelvis and some cuts after it was gone a few days
