Tipping on Door Dash, Waitr, etc.

I consider myself a good tipper.
Restaurants 10-30% depending on service, $10 for haircut, the kids at Sonic, etc.
With that being said..
When ordering from Door Dash:
Food is $12
Fees and tax is $4
Delivery is $6
Total $22 for $12 worth of food.
Why do they expect a tip?
“Please tip your driver, delivery fees don’t include the tip..”
Yeah right. Fix your policy then.

Well yeah they should fix the policy but the delivery fee really isn’t a tip. So if you don’t tip your driver he paid gas to drive to the store then deliver your lazy arse food.

$12 worth of food can’t be much.

I’m a college student has been doing doordash since this thing started to make extra cash.. without the delivery tip we do not make much at all.. it’s much needed

Policy is dumb, but don’t be an arse. Either pay a decent tip, or get up and get the food for yourself.

Chase sapphire reserve and I think freedom gives me reduced fees and free delivery to most restaurants with free dash pass.... yes I tip them 15-20%...wtf is 5-10$ if I’m too lazy to make my lunch or dinner

There's your problem. I rarely ever get delivery from a place with a delivery fee over $1. Usually I limit myself to free delivery. Then I can tip the driver properly. I would tip a server if I went to the restaurant, so the driver's tip is not likely to make the cost of the meal that much more than if I had gone to the restaurant.
These larger fees, when they are flat fees, are much more reasonable if you are ordering for 6-10 people at an office for lunch. I would never pay 50% of my food price as a delivery fee.

Sounds like you're too poor to be using delivery services.

If you can’t afford to tip your driver you shouldn’t be ordering Waitr. Just go pick it up.
You’re paying for convenience

Delivery company fees are ridiculous. They double dip. Flat fee ($6) for customer and 33% ( waitr is currently 30% plus a 3.1 credit card processing fee) for business, and the drivers are getting $8 an hr. Pretty sad. Because of these fees to business, that $12 in food would probably cost you $8 if you went pick up yourself.

I don't see how it is worth it to drive for stuff like that when you factor is gas and wear on your car

You’re paying #22.00 for a service, and a convenience. Tipping the driver isn’t included. If it offends you, then there’s a very simple answer for that. Get your lazy arse in your vehicle and go pick it up yourself.

Prefer to get out, so haven’t ordered much delivery. I’ve pretty much just doubled my tip amounts. E.g. from yesterday...
Subway pickup: total $28 - tip $20
Local Brewery: total $48 - tip $30

Your driver manufactures their own tip by sampling your food during the delivery.
So even when you don’t tip, you do tip.
Now you can sleep at night, you’re welcome.

I would like to have the option to tip AFTER the food is delivered. Too many times I will tip and then part of my order is wrong or forgotten or it takes 1.5 hrs for it to get delivered.
