Brandon Winey appreciates Dinardo

One of the more random 2020 storylines has been former Tigers ripping DiNardo publicly. Didn't see that coming.

We all regret his last two years.

I think the opposite is true.

Dinardo was a long time ago. I remember LSU being bad when he left, and I remember Hanagriff's show breaking in with the announcement when LSU fired Dinardo. But why are all the old players shitting on him so bad recently?

Joe Dean was quoted several yrs later, post firing, that GD was the most intelligent HC he had ever worked with, the recipient of numerous academic awards from N.D. He also said GD had the worst people skills of any HC he had ever worked with.

But, looking back, it isnt exactly shocking an Italian from Queens didnt exactly see eye to eye with a bunch of rural white baws and black guys from the south

Misleading headline.
Dinardo regrets not doing better during his last 2 years.

What baffles me about him is that he couldn’t see or maybe failed to see because of foolish pride what a failure Lou Tepper was. I know we had a similar situation where Les refused to change the offense. But he was blinded by the fact that they were still winning. With Tepper we were losing and losing bad.

The tepper thing was just an utterly disastrous experiment. Having said that I always appreciated dinardo bringing the program from what essentially had become Vanderbilt to at least respectable again. The excitement levels in 95-98 was something that hadn’t been around since the 80’s.
I really think he laid the initial groundwork for Saban eventually coming here and building LSU back to what it is now.

Lou Tepper gets all the hate(probably because of the book and the dreaded "drop linebacker") but Bob McConnell was equally bad.

DiNardo did leave Saban some players to win the 2001 SEC title. But his coaches and last 2 years were a real disaster. Saban came in a made changes and now LSU is a national power.

Dinardo was the anti Orgeron.
Dinardo acted like a government bureaucrat. He was afraid to hire competent assistants because he was afraid they would upstage him.
Orgeron attempts to hire the best because he knows it will make him be more successful.
