I am bothered by the roles not being played by actors of the same ethnicity as their characters.

Sincerely,

BLM

I like broadway musicals having seen a few on broadway and others elsewhere. I’m watching this right now and, admittedly, do not like it. It has not held my attention at all.

It took me about 20-30 minutes to get into it.

King George III is the best character so far.

Facts.

It's ironic that we get Hamilton dropping on Disney+ in the middle of white actors dropping roles because they "can't play people of color."

I was glad to get to see it with the original cast because Jonathon Groff is amazing in that role.

Hey, look who's at the very front of the "I totally missed the point" parade. The parade features both people being intentionally ignorant and unintentionally. I'm sure you're in idiotic company.

Much better company than the crowd you're in, that's for sure.

We just finished it. Had not seen it in person. It's pretty good. Jefferson and King George were the highlights. King George basically steals the show.

It's definitely one of the better plays to come out in the last 5 years, but I don't think it rises to the level of all the clamoring about it. Glad I didn't go crazy trying to get tickets for this.

I know he created it, but I honestly thought Lin-Manuel Miranda was the worst actor on the stage. He did fine, but the other actors definitely stole the scenes he was in.

ETA: As for downvotes, I think people are tired of race swapping only being okay in one instance.

He is a proficient actor and singer, but he made sure to cast some of the most talented actors and singers on Broadway around himself. In many cases, he literally wrote the parts to their strengths such that it has been difficult to cast their replacements (Leslie Odom Jr, Daveed Diggs).

PBS has a documentary covering his creation of it that I strongly recommend.

Not gonna’ downvote anything, but I watched it last night and was immediately bored. Very glad that I didn’t pay to see it live. To each his own.

Still haven't watched it yet. My wife and I listened to the cast album nonstop for a few months, but I've often suspected that the format of theater just isn't really made for a production like this.

Musicals are usually designed around the songs representing a break from reality for the chatacters. The play is real and the songs are fantasy.

Hamilton is the opposite. The stage production is an orchestrated fantasy and the songs are largely lengthy exposition, lessons from 10th grade history with a hip hop beat behind it. I don't say that to diminish them - I think the OCR is a groundbreaking masterpiece - but I can understand why having people stand on stage singing you a 3 hour lecture would be less engaging than the $600 price tag would lead you to expect.

I listened to the entire thing while I browsed on my phone. Some of the songs were interesting, but other than the King it seemed like more of a concert than a play.

i do think musicals have a difficult time translating to a production like this. but i enjoyed it even if i thought it dragged after the intermission at times. i dont think they did a good job at all with the political drama aspect

however, the establishment of hamilton and his relationship with eliza were very strong and worth the watch. happy i didnt spend thousands to see this though
