My local Food Lion grocery store an hour ago

Discuss how China has us surrounded without usual war. Educate me on how this happened in 2013 and what politicians/lobbyists got paid from the R's, the D's, to the Obama admin. I am sure the Clinton's started the cow-tailing to China...

Y'all can put Bamarep down for NEVER buying another Smithfield product again even though I loved their little pork loins.

frick em. I'll buy Hormel and US Foods even if it's twice as much.

ask my husband I detest Hormel anything. It all tastes awful.

I wonder if Smithfield restaurants is the same as Smithfields meat packing. I think so? Dunno for sure. In NC, Smithfield's restaurant has decent BBQ and chicken, brunswick stew.

So Trump's E.O. on meat packing companies means nothing?

We need to get this country OPEN again ASAP!

Two weeks ago the grocery store near me was like that when I went there and the next day it was back to normal. They likely haven't restocked it yet or delivery truck is still on its way.

I live in a beach resort town surrounded by beaches and most especially the best beach- Topsail and Treasure Island. A LOT of people/tourists track the roads. There are more grocery stores than most cities/towns. The Food Lion I posted was in a rural town inland about 30 miles.

The shelves are NEVER empty-minus a large Hurricane Florence...

Why are people hoarding meat?

Pigs don’t fly. It’s an easy problem to fix.

less eating at restaurants = more purchases made at grocery stores.

There’s more to it than that.

people are hoarding meat for the same reason that people hoarded toilet paper.

There is the fear that meat may become scarce in the united states because some plants have shut down temporarily.

Just like meat sold out at the beginning of the pandemic because of fear of possible food shortages.

I doubt there will be actual shortages, but short term there may be till people have finished panic buying.

Our food supply chain is s inject to structural problems imposed by artificial government imposed restrictions that need to be addressed.

There are only 4 companies that own meat packing plants, 2 of which are Chinese.

Guess which packing plants are closed?

Meat prices are skyrocketing, yet ranchers are getting pennies on the dollar for their cattle. Why?

This is an attack. This is planned. Supply nor demand nor medical practices nor hoarding behaviors are driving these shortages.

are beef cows in Fla. TX & CA. all exported? Anyone know?

I thought I heard in local news that pigs were being euthanized...

Hog farmers face 'devastating decision' over euthanizing herds
quote:

Harnett County farmer Tom Butler delivered 8,000 grown pigs to Prestage Farms this week, as he added another batch of 8,000 young pigs to his barns.

Farmers who contract with the state’s big pork producers aren’t getting a lot of information about the coronavirus sweeping through the processing plants, Butler said.

The N.C. Department of Health and Human Services said Thursday at least 982 meat-processing workers have tested positive for the virus.

The Prestage Farms driver who picked up Butler’s pigs Monday told him other loads had been canceled, because so many employees didn’t show up for work at the Smithfield Foods plant, Butler said. He is concerned about keeping the plants open, he said, but also knows worker safety comes first.

Definitely stop buying Smithfield products but also make sure you stop buying the other brands that they own as well such as Gwaltney, Ekrich, Morrell and over 30 others.

I think you nailed it. I overheard a butcher in IGA/Piggly Wiggly say they don't know when more pork will be coming in.

What are the grocery shelves like where you live?

Stores in the Gump have been fine for the most part. Hell, I even picked two whole filet loins for $4.99/# last week.
