I have to say, I think Amazing Grace, is the best song of all time. It's certainly stood the test of time.

I really like that John Prine Song though, really great writing.

I won’t make the grand declaration of your thread title, but I never seem to tire of this little piece of perfection.

This isn't the greatest and best song in the world, this is just a tribute.

Mack the Knife with Bobby Darin. The song starts out with few instruments but with every new verse, more instruments are added and the energy keeps building through the whole song

I have to also add Barber's Adagio for Strings (if you don't know it off hand, the movie Platoon starts with it). This also starts low and slowly builds

I prefer “Albinoni’s” Adagio.

LOL!

Guess I should explain this one. Was a little drunk the other night and started watching John Prine on some YouTube Videos. Damn, I miss him. He was one of America's greatest writers.

That live version of "In Spite of Ourselves" just makes me feel good for some reason. Who in the world could have come up with those lyrics? A genius that's who.

I might say "The Great Compromise" may be my overall favorite Prine song. Prine's drinkin' music. When you miss your dog.

But any of them "the greatest song of all time"? LOL! That's subjective. Would depend on the genre, the period, the artist. One can never pick just one greatest song, but it's fun trying. Already seeing some great examples. “Albinoni’s” Adagio for one. If you're in a bad mood, that one'll depress the shite out of you. Recalls the movie "Gallipoli" with Mel Gibson.

Allegri - Miserere Mei Deus

Music specifically created to be played in the Sistine chapel. It’s so beautiful.

While I absolutely love In Spite of Ourselves, calling it the greatest song of all time is a major stretch.
