Did Wuhan lab shutdown in October? Cellphone data fuels conspiracy theories

As reported by NBC News, it was revealed there was no cellphone activity in the high-security portion of the Wuhan Institute of Virology from October 7 through October 24. A report obtained by the London-based NBC News Verification Unit suggested that there may have been a "hazardous event" sometime between October 6 and October 11.
If the lab was suddenly stopped operating in October, which has not been confirmed by Chinese officials or Wuhan lab authorities, it could be seen as evidence of a possibility being examined by US intelligence agencies that the novel Coronavirus had emerged accidentally from the Chinese scientific facility.
quote:
As per US intelligence agencies reports based on publicly available, cellphone and satellite data suggested that the lab was closed, said two US officials familiar with the matter. But after analysing own data and overhead imagery, the agencies were unable to confirm any shutdown and claimed that the reports are "inconclusive." One US official said that currently, analysts are examining the October and November data for suggesting any anomalies at the Wuhan lab, high-security facility in an adversary nation which has been studying dangerous pathogens. After Sen Marco Rubio became aware of the report, he took it to Twitter and wrote: "Would be interesting if someone analyzed commercial telemetry data at & near Wuhan lab from Oct-Dec 2019. If it shows dramatic drop off in activity compared to previous 18 months it would be a strong indication of an incident at lab & of when it happened."
quote:
However, scientists started to suspect that the coronavirus was already being transmitted among people a lot earlier than the world knows, following testimony from a well-known French athlete. Olympic silver medallist pentathlete Elodie Clouvel and her boyfriend recently revealed that they fell ill after taking part in the Military World Games, which took place held in Wuhan between October 18 and 27. As per Clouvel, doctors told her that it was likely that she had caught COVID-19. As per the recent reports, other French team members have also claimed that they also fell ill. But the French army has denied all knowledge of anyone contracting the disease during the games.

What else could they do when everyone in the lab got sick?

Evidence is really piling up to suggest that the virus started there. Was probably mishandled and released, probably by a worker not using proper precautions and catching it. Could be that they got complacent working with the other bat viruses and weren't taking their protocols seriously enough when a really infectious one like this came through.
Just to remind people as usual, this does not mean the virus was created in the lab as a bioweapon. It was probably collected from the wild and brought back to the lab. At worst, it mutated in the lab into something that does not exist in nature, but it was not synthesized.

Sure why not?
This seems plausible as any other theory out there.
frick China .

what's interesting to me is our gov also saw the lack of cell phone data then went back and looked at satellite data, then determined it is "inconclusive" if it was closed or not.
this means they still saw people going in and out of it, despite there being no cell phone data coming out of it.
sounds like a blackout, which makes it even more sketchy.

ladies and gentlemen i give you MICROBRAIN.
what part of genetically modified communist weapon do you not understand. no trade war no virus take it to the bank.

You literally have an image of a lizard person under that barely-comprehensible string of "English"
Edit: just so I'm contributing something besides an ad hominem attack, you simply don't realize how (1) difficult it is to synthesize or modify a virus, (2) how signatures of genome meddling would be obvious in the genomes, and (3) how the released genomes already prove the case against synthetic origins of the virus and instead suggest a natural origin.

Wouldn't be surprised for a lab to react exactly like that to a problem it thought it might be able to get under control before people find out about it. Yeah, I would totally buy it.

simple enough to do in your garage LINK
or increase the virus infectiousness via artificial selection/forced mutations in a lab.
you think we can turn a wolf with a lifespan 8-10 years into a pug in 15 thousand years.. but couldn't do the same with a virus that lives only a few days in a shorter timespan????

We funded the testing there. They might have fricked up, but we have no business doing this "research". We have Labs all over the country doing this type of stuff.
When i mean we i mean people like Fauci.

Have you tried and failed for months to get CRISPR to work effectively to interrupt a single gene, much less modifying an entire virus genome? Like coworkers in my lab that I work closely with have? No? So you have no idea how CRISPR actually works or the challenges involved in it, or how it's totally overblown in how easy it is to use?
The dude shooting himself up with CRISPR in his garage wasn't doing shite. Why would you just believe that without evidence or anything close to expertise?

On the contrary we funded it because we DON'T do that kind of labs here. We don't have many BSL-4 labs in the US and none of them were set up for coronaviruses like the Wuhan lab was.
It seemed like a good idea at the time - fund them to figure out which Chinese viruses we should be worried about without bringing the viruses to the US. That was the whole point of the program. And we didn't fund nearly the whole thing, just contributed to it, and some of that funding went to US collaborators.

I’ve mentioned before: My son is a student at Auburn. He plays basketball at the rec all the time, and often it’s against teams of Chinese kids. He got really sick just before Thanksgiving. Doctor was certain it was flu, but test was negative. He was fine in less than a week. Knowing what we know now, symptoms were all the same as COVID-19. Will be curious to see the results of his antibody test when we get it done.

I amazes me that there are people around who are insistent that the virus did not originate there. They can't even bring themselves to contemplate the possibility. How do these people function from day to day?

Both of those methods mentioned in the paper you linked take existing viruses and edit them, not creates them from scratch, which leaves obvious signatures in the genomes - did you read my points 2 and 3 above, or not?
All of the Covid-19 genomes are public, and no evidence of non-natural assembly or editing has been found. It would be obvious if it occured, because parts of the virus genome would match one group of viruses, while the other parts would match either other viruses or something else entirely.
It does sound like they had an easy enough time with it, maybe we just suck at CRISPR. Or doing in on fungi like we're doing is much more difficult than viruses. It's just frustrating for someone to take a conspiracy position on something they don't know anything about, or have no idea about the complexities of.
It's also really cool that you posted a journal article that agrees with what you wanted to be true, but would probably dismiss any published research that shows conclusively the virus is natural.

I'm literally in the lab right now doing my once-per-week essential visit to keep the cultures alive. Damn dude, not everything is a conspiracy against you.

It is racist to even say Covid 19 is from China.

October would make sense, given that we started seeing cases in December.
