Tommy Stevens Will Be Meaningless To This Team

I know it’s not a big deal. We traded a 6th for a 7th, but this was a meaningless move. I get that our 6th next year would not have yielded anything meaningful. I have no reason to doubt our draft process, but I feel this was a Payton flier on an athlete he he thinks he can turn into some weird hybrid. HE IS NOT TAYSOM HILL! This is a pick I’m fairly sure Ireland did not sign off on. This is a gift to Payton from Loomis. This will be a nothing pick. We have a great roster and will be really good this year, but I think they are getting a little full of themselves. My melt is over. Downvote away.

You don’t know that
He could be our Taysom while Jamies is dominating the league for the next 15 years

You’re right, I don’t know. I should say I think. And like I said, I can’t doubt our draft process. I just feel this was a reach by a staff that is getting overconfident. I hope I’m wrong. I don’t have any history of doubting any picks FWIW.

I'm usually Mr sunshine pumper when it comes to the Saints but I feel the same. Not a big deal bc you have to be really lucky to hit on a 6th rounder anyway but I feel like this was a big nothingburger of a draft pick. I'd much rather have been able to take our chances with a 6th round pick next year. Not meltworthy but just kinda pointless in my opinion.
He may be very athletic but I doubt this dude makes the team and if so he prob never sees the field. Taysom was a machine in college . This guy couldnt hit the broad side of a barn with a pass and wasn't some elite scrambler either. I thought the rest of the draft was top notch but this was a prime example of Sean Payton being cute late in the draft. Oh well.

taysom will play less special teams, need an athletic body there and that could be stevens.
the most important part of this is removing having to deal with a gadget player on another team.

Btw, Taysom Hill was an undrafted free agent who got cut from his first team.

He’s an athletic kid with great size I don’t mind the pick. Even if he’s just a good special teams guy it would be worth what we gave up. Hell he’s worth it just for the hilarious story of taking him from Carolina.

Ok, he was also a player who didn’t fit a position. And he really didn’t on our team until we figured out his value, which took a minute. Payton was genius figuring out his value. But it wasn’t immediate. I’m not freaking out about the pick, just think it was unnecessary. Hope I’m wrong.

I’m not a fortune teller. Just venting my thoughts on a message board. I thought that is what these forums are for. No need to get personal, brother. We are all on the same side here.

Can we not question anything? Is this all you have to add. How about you come with something of substance. Other than “shut the frick up”. Have a conversation and change my mind. Give me something. I’m not even mad.

Stevens is a CSP puzzle piece that may give the Saints some contingency options.
Hopefully he is used in a limited way the first year.
That would mean no one got injured ahead of him.
Taysom Hill was used and introduced gradually into gameplay.
Hill got an expanded role over time.
I trust CSP will find a use for Stevens.
To say he's meaningless to the team is a bit premature.

I agree with you. But as you said it’s pretty meaningless and I never thought Hill would be as big of a weapon as he’s become so I’ve been wrong before.

Saints are likely getting a 6th round comp pick next year so it's moot

Hes 6-5, 250lbs, and runs a 4.5 40. He is a tremendous athlete, played QB, and has all of the traits you would want to build a project around. Do I think he will have the same impact on special teams like Taysom? No. But I'm sure if Joe Brady and Sean Payton both wanted him, there has to be something to this guy worth drafting him for.

We fought over him with joe brady. May be fails, but maybe not...kinda what 6 round fliers are for

6th round comp pick.
Nice. And also a 3rd for Teddy right ?
A pick in every round would be sweet.

Ok? Maybe? It’s a 6th round pick. That’s the type of shite you get with a 6th rounder lol.
Dude. Fix your brain. It’s bad

You think you really went out on a limb here by predicting a 7th rounder will be meaningless. Breaking News!! We have a Hot Take here.
