Lexus is killing off the slow-selling GS luxury sedan
Yahoo
Lexus announced in Japan that it will discontinue the entire remaining GS lineup, including the 467-horsepower GS F performance sedan, after production there ends in August. It also follows the brand’s decision last year to not offer the entry-level GS 300 in the U.S. for 2020.
Lexus first launched the GS in 1993 and last gave it full update for its fourth generation in 2012, designating it as the first model to get the signature, polarizing spindle grille. Rumors of its eventual demise have persisted for years, with Lexus sitting with a whopping six sedans and coupes at a time when all momentum is on the side of crossovers and SUVs. Last year, the GS represented just 4% of overall Lexus sales in the car segment.
Through the first three months of 2020, Lexus sold just 624 GS sedans, a decline of more than 34% year over year. Full-year sales in 2019 were down a whopping 48.8%, at just 3,378. The model saw its best sales year in 2015, when it sold 23,117.
Fun fact: Last year, the Infiniti brand was down almost as much as this one single Lexus model that is being canceled. Covid is not going to paint a rosier picture for 2020.

It's just a souped up Camry anyway

How is that even possible?
200 per month. That’s about 4 per state. Probably some states with not a single one sold.

I would pick the ES 350 over the GS series any day. I love the ES 350.

Infiniti was dead even without covid.

That’s disappointing. My wife loves her GS. It’s her 4th in a row

I considered one about a year ago. ‘17 CPOs were sub-$30k.
The LS is an amazing value too if you don’t mind driving a large marshmallow.

Women want their husbands to buy SUV's for them.

I’m ready for sedans and sports cars to make a comeback. I have nothing against SUVs and crossovers, but I prefer a little variety.

3 pages and no car pics just goes to show you how ugly these overpriced Toyotas are.

Toyotas are the ugliest cars on the road.

The GS F is a fine looking car. But it’s that awkward size sports sedan that no one really wants. Not for 80k

This was happening with or without a COVID. The demand for cars has waned. It’s a market for SUVs, trucks and crossovers. That Ford isn’t building cars other than the Mustang. There’s a sea change in the automotive industry. By the end of the decade, electric vehicles will overtake gas powered vehicles.

Shame...incredible car!
I would love to get a preloved one next time instead of a fleet company car.

RIP to a legend. Hands down the best platform for VIP Style, you know more and more sedans (and hatchbacks and wagons!) are going to be dying off thanks to everyone's preference for SUVs.
Nothing like a VIP'd out GS

Supposedly Lexus is getting rid of 8 bangers and going to twin turbo 6's.
So I guess the lc500 will soon not have v8's.
