My prescription is expired, and I need to order.
My Dr (williamson in gonzales) won't update my contact prescription without an in person exam, of which they can't do until late May as of right now. If our idiot governor keeps extending the orders (which has pushed my appointment another week as of yesterday), who knows when they will allow in person appointments again.
Anyone know of an eye doc that can/will update my prescription? Heck, I'll even order through them instead of somewhere online at this point. They won't fill a prescription either without an updated Rx, even though I have an account and have ordered these exact contacts from them before

Who do order them from? I go to the same eye clinic but luckily had ordered some more a few months when I knew my scrip was close to expiring. I’m surprised they won’t make exceptions right now when you can’t see your doctor.

Will your doc sell you some from his stock to tide you over until you can get an appointment?

I know, right?
Which is why I'm shopping for a new eye doc.
Won't order me a month's worth until I can get an in person appt.

ETA: I get my glasses from Williamson, but order daily contacts from doscountcontactlenses.com

My wife went to the doctor and ordered new glasses 6 days before the shutdown. They were supposed to take 7 days and she still doesn't have them. She can't see shite.

My blood is boiling over it. No one is going to pull their license over a few orders of contacts. Its freaking moronic. Its not like I'm asking for a script of percocet

Yep.

It seems like they could have called us and mailed them to her. She's already had the exam and new prescription.

I have some, but I hate wearing them.
I'll make due, just don't understand the lack of common sense to just let me order enough to get me through. You would think they would take any revenue they could get right now.

That would piss me off too.

The yearly exam is already a complete rip-off since all over Europe etc prescriptions either last for years or you don't even need one! and there's no evidence to show that anyone over there has suffered more than Americans due to it.

In fact, that you run out and need to wait for an exam to get new ones is the only thing that has ever caused me to wear them too long which is actually the only dangerous thing you can do.

This sounds like classic drug-seeking behavior. Good luck getting contacts now that you're on the watch list.

A good doctor would start to wean you off before you become dependent. Unfortunately there’s far too many ophthalmologists out there who are just in it for the money and will keep writing stronger and stronger scripts until you die.

Ophthalmologists can be notoriously picky about contacts. Extending the prescription without an exam can cause you further harm if there is a latent problem, but letting the prescription expire stops the harm until you can get checked out. My eye doctor is the same way yours is. He very explicitly tells his patients that he writes prescriptions for 18 months (if I remember right) and WILL NOT extend them without an exam, so it's on you to schedule your yearly exam in a timely manner to avoid disruption. He's a REALLY fricking good doctor and his waiting room is always full, so I'm guessing not many people are complaining much about his strict contact rules.

It's not something like blood pressure medicine where it's more dangerous to the patient for the doctor to refuse to extend the prescription without an exam, so ophthalmologists can just tell you to suck it up and come in if they want to.

I don't really believe that all over Europe where you don't even need a prescription to get contacts that they have so many problems with that policy.

Of course it would be safest in a perfect world if an ophthalmologist checked a patient every single week but that should really be the patient's choice since I have never seen much evidence that the yearly exam does much aside from some extremely low percentage of patients.

Agreed. I think it's a bit much, but it is what we deal with.
