I’ve done it more than once. When you buy the car, you will not pay taxes on the vehicle. Once you register it in the state of Louisiana, you will he issued a license plate and a tax bill, to be paid immediately.

Can't cross state lines right now without 14 day quarantine.

I've done it, found myself in a bit of a bind in south texas. Didnt have time to wait around, paid cash and drove it back to Louisiana.

That's what I figured

And you can cross the state as long as you aren't staying in Texas
I called the Texas state troopers and they sent me to homeland
Guy said I should get through

That is true about the 14 day quarantine though. I think they have you fill out a form and come and check on you

This. You WILL pay taxes when you register it in Louisiana, and you're gonna pay them right there on the spot before you get a registration and plates. You MIGHT get credit for any taxes that you may have paid in the state you bought it in.

Accidentally found a loop hole to avoid paying sales tax. Bought a car for cash in Louisiana for my son going to college In Alabama. Didn’t pay Louisiana taxes because I told them I was going to register it in my son’s name out of state. I signed the title the dealership gave me as a second seller and my son as a second buyer. I never registered it under my name. Made a gift form letter stating he paid nothing for him to use when he registered it. Being a gift, he just pays the registration fee (less than $100). It worked out that no sales taxes had to be paid. Didn’t plan it that way, but avoided Louisiana taxes because it was never registered. Alabama doesn’t charge taxes on a gift.

Don’t tell anyone.

No need to drive to Texas. You can buy a flooded car in La.

Title goes to whoever is holding the loan. When you pay it off, you will get the title. If you are paying cash, I would assume you would be issued the title.

The state of Louisiana will mail you a check. It takes about a month or two.

I bought a used truck in TX a few years back. Paid cash for it... did all the paperwork and drove it home. They put a TX temp tag on it. About a week later they FedEx me the title and I went and transferred it to to LA title, paid taxes and got it registered

So the guy is saying he got it from a police auction
He says he will mail me the title
I think he has a little shitty car dealership
He says he will give bill of sale

I'm just worried about the guy being shady and only having a bill of sale

What if the car has a lien/loan on it

Yeah bought my car there in 2016. Houston -> BR. Saved me about 3-5K on a used with 6k miles vs. the 30k Miles on the limited stock here in BR. They handle all the paperwork, tax and registration/liscense plate is in your mail a month later.

Rule of thumb, if it seems sketch, just look elsewhere. The car probably has some hidden things too.

I bought a Truck in Texas in September 2016 after the local market here was decimated from the flood. Saved a little money but from what I remember the dealership registered it in Louisiana somehow. Louisiana sent me a plate shortly thereafter. Taxes were based on my Louisiana zipcode.
