Magic only went to the finals 75% of his career winning 5 rings in the process. Played 8 less years than Kobe and still can match rings. 3 finals MVPs which is more than Kobe. Averaged more steals rebounds assists and block per game than Kobe. I'd say there is at least an argument to be made

Magic was also the greatest passer in NBA history. IMO, being the GOAT in a major category is an extra resume bump, and it's one Kobe doesn't have.

Ask those 80's Lakers and Pat Riley how much they feared Larry Joe Bird.

He's right around 10 in my opinion.

Thing with Kobe is that if you consider him top 10, you have to consider Duncan top 10 as well. Both had 5 championships, equal number of All-Star appearances when you consider that Kobe didn't deserve 3 of his. Kobe had a higher peak but Duncan was better longer.

I'm not a Kobe fan but name me 10 better

Jordan-yes
LeBron-no, too mentally weak, choked too many times
Magic-arguable, as an all-around player Kobe's more talented and applied that talent well however Magic was THE LEADER of the Showtime dynasty and among the greatest winners in the history of the sport
Bird-yes
Shaq-arguable, at his zenith, Shaq was arguably the most dominant player in the history of the game and elevated his game in the playoffs, HOWEVER his work ethic and commitment to winning has been up for debate many, MANY times whereas Kobe built an entire legacy off having maybe the greatest work ethic of all-time. Obviously this difference was a factor in the Shaq/Kobe rift.
Kareem-yes
Hakeem-yes
Duncan-yes
Wilt-no, Wilt put stats over winning, nuff said
Oscar-no, Oscar was a notorious arse to play with and that crippled his teams pre-Kareem instead of empowered them
Curry (Yeah I said it)-lol no

lol@mental weak.

The stats in no way support Kobe being a better player than Lebron so we have to use other stuff.

This again.

LeBron dominates Kobe's regular season clutch play, postseason clutch play, regular season productivity, playoff productivity and finals productivity. Kobe is actually worse in the clutch than NBA average. And people insist on posting this.

I am not sure it matters and nobody ever changes someone's mind in one of these threads.

Both.

Personally, I have Kobe right at #10. He is right on the bubble. I could see an argument for him as high as 8, or as low as 14.

I cant believe nobody has mentioned Kevin McHale. Not saying he was better than Kobe but he is right outside the top 10 and very comparable to Duncan.

Kevin McHale

Ehh, he was a great post scorer, but nowhere near a guy like Duncan on D and didn't have a particularly comparable career.

Compare him to the best PF's like Duncan, KG, Malone, etc and he isn't close. He only scored over 20 ppg 5 times and never averaged double figure rebounds.

Duncan scored over 20 ppg 9 times and had double figure rebounds 12x, and Popovich notoriously limited his minutes. Karl Malone scored 20+ per game 17 years to McHale's 5.

It's crazy to think that Magic didn't go to the Finals only 3 times in his career.

Stats can only get you so far, why don't you call up Wilt or Oscar and see where stats got them in terms of their legacy?

LeBron > Kobe

But anyone who has ever played basketball will tell you stats are not everything. Kobe is Top 3 all time.

I really have no words.

Boom even says this is stupid.
