Check in if you ever rode this bad boy. It seems really tame against some of the amusement park rides I’ve ridden since, but 10 year old High C was a terrified bundle of hyperventilation when he got his feet back on the ground.

I rode that death trap way too many times.

The Pontchartrain Beach clown is a thing of nightmares.

If you ever fingerblasted a girl from Slidell you are immune from the coronavirus.

I never knew Pontchartrain had a ski lift.

I was literally the last person to leave Pontchartrain Beach the night it closed permanently.
edit to add story: My friend's dad had something to do with the group that bought the land or were supposed to develop condos thee I forget exactly. There was even a model of the new condos in the room where we had food/drinks, etc. After it closed my friend and I were walking around the place mostly dark but some lights here and there. Walking inside the haunted house was eerie. After his parents finished partying or whatever they were doing, the dad was tasked with locking the gate with chain/padlock. As we all stepped out of the gate I intentionally slacked off so I would be the last person to step through. Thats my claim to fame I guess.

quote:No but I rode the wild mouse. I think they moved it to Fun Fair Park after Pontchartrain Beach shut down.

I didn't know that even existed! Pretty cool history of Pontchartrain:

Back in '75 my parents made my 18 year old eldest brother take my older brother (who was turning 15)and two friends to Pontchartrain Beach for his birthday.
I was able to tag along and hung out with my big brother. We were riding on the Sky Ride and it conked out for about an hour during the middle of the ride. I thought it was cool as shite being that far above the crowd for that long. My bro didn't care for it that much.
Later, we were riding on the Galaxy ride behind two ladies. When we hit the first big drop off, the wig on one of the ladies flew off her head, revealing those tissue paper curler ladies used to use back then. She was mortified for the whole ride and I thought it was funny as heck. My brother had caught her wig in mid air when it flew off.
I have never seen happier person than when my brother handed her the wig that he had caught.

I worked the Midway at Pontchartrain Beach one summer in one of the game booths. Back then I was making a whopping $1.25 and hour in 1965 and working from the time they opened in the morning until they closed at night.
The Zephyr and Wild Maus were my two favorite rides with the Wild Maus being the scarier of the two with it's sharp turns feeling like you were getting ready to zoom off into the parking lot.

For my first date as a 15 year old sophomore I asked out and took a senior girl to Pontchartrain Beach. I was the kicker on the football team and it was the start of a long career of out-kicking my coverage both on and off the field.

Yes indeed, far to many times with the girlfriends at the time.
The world’s fair gondola over the River was the best. We would take the kids to the fair for a few hours & take the trip over to drop them with the grandparents & return for a little “adult” entertainment.

The top of the Zephyr and the entrance to the Bali Hai is located at Kenner City Hall Park.
