Coast Guard Tells Cruise Ships With COVID-19 Cases To Stay Away From U.S. Ports

The U.S. Coast Guard is telling foreign-flagged cruise ships to be prepared to care for people with COVID-19 for an "indefinite period of time" at sea or to seek help from countries other than the U.S., citing a health care system that is being overwhelmed. The instructions are in a new safety bulletin that took effect this week along the southern Atlantic coast, including Florida – which is reporting more than 6,700 coronavirus cases, as of Tuesday evening.
If a cruise ship must send someone ashore for medical care, its owner will be responsible for essentially every step of the trip, from arranging an evacuation to hiring a private ambulance and ensuring the person has a spot in a hospital. But the Coast Guard bulletin, signed by Rear Adm. E.C. Jones of the 7th District based in Miami, also says it could be difficult to find any facility in South Florida that can take new COVID-19 patients.
"Medical facilities in the Port of Miami, for example, are no longer accepting MEDEVAC patients due to limited hospital capacity and it is expected that neighboring counties will follow suit," wrote Jones, whose Coast Guard district includes Florida, Puerto Rico, Georgia and South Carolina.

So we are going to bail them out but we are going to force them to sit offshore while everyone on the ship gets COVID and either dies or gets better....doesn't seem like the best way to followup the bailout spend.

I’m curious about what cruise lines are still sailing

They are foreign-flagged cruise ships, let their flag country bail them out.

Wouldn't want to be an Expat in a pissed off nation right now...

What morons are still getting on cruises?

Just sit right back
And you'll hear a tale
A tale of a fateful trip
That started from this tropic port
Aboard this tiny ship
The mate was a mighty sailing man
The skipper brave and sure
Five passengers set sail that day
For a 3 hour tour, a 3 hour tour

All the companies that will be covered in the Corona Stimulus #3 bill have foreign flagged ships to get around US tax code.

I know why they have foreign flags, and that’s why they shouldn’t be bailed out.

Yep. Let the flagged nation bail them out.

We should just send them to China, apparently they know how to handle this better than us

If only there was some way these people could have known there was a worldwide pandemic when they left home a week or two ago. If only every government had been suggesting that everybody stay home. Then they could have known not to get on the floating Pitri dish and would be home and safe now.

That's what the Admiral told them.

But now, the Coast Guard is telling those companies that their ships should seek medical care in the countries where they are registered, rather than rely on the U.S.
"Foreign flagged vessels that loiter beyond U.S. territorial seas, particularly those registered to The Bahamas, that require a MEDEVAC to a shoreside facility should seek flag state support prior to seeking support from the limited facilities in the U.S.," Jones wrote.

This particular cruise started five weeks ago, was for 3 weeks, but has been stuck with passengers for 2 extra weeks.

I think these ships were on a trip from Brazil to Chile. Not sure what we have to do with them.
They have to go back!
They have to go back!

sounds very reasonable and humane
send them food and medical supplies as needed
but there isnt one damn reason any of them have a justified reason to step foot off that boat. 95% will get sick and be well in 5 days and then they can continue on their cruise as normal
