I love the NYC Subway

I rode it for the first time last summer while on vacation. I stayed in Mid-town and used the subway and my feet to get around. No way was I going to Uber during my trip.
It was fascinating. An entire underworld of tunnels, signs, shops, people, etc. It was a true ‘slice of life.’ I split away from the group I was with and took the rails to Coney Island, Citi Field, and Yankee Stadium, as well as around Manhattan.
Every station seemed to mean something different for someone, it’s own identity. For me, there was something special about going downstairs into a furnace, inhaling a musty, stale scent, riding in a car, and emerging from beneath to an entirely different neighborhood.
Most of my travels are out West to some of nature’s great sites. I enjoy cities, but it’s nice to get away from the hustle. Something about NY was different. Those subways were fricking awesome.

I did this in Paris once at rush hour. Let’s just say I’d imagine sardines having more room. It was a curious mass of humanity especially for my oversized suv driving self.

The NYC subway is an absolute pit
The only train system in this country that is in any way enjoyable to ride is the Chicago CTA
I may have had to suck it up and live off the Addison Red Line stop for a couple years but it is so nice it makes having to take the train into work enjoyable
The NYC subway makes you want to kill yourself

I read a study about how those who take public transportation are 10x more likely to suicide than of those who drive a Lamborghini Gallardo

I prefer MARTA but I also like to chance my life going to multiple stores looking for toilet paper just to wrap pillows up and pretend they are mummies

Imagine having to take the 7 Train to the ballpark looking like you're riding through Beirut next to some kid with purple hair, next to some queer with AIDS, right next to some dude who just got out of jail for the fourth time, right next to some 20-year-old mom with four kids. It's depressing.
Atlanta Braves pitcher John Rocker said that 21 years ago about the NYC subway and was pretty much persona non grata in the MLB after that.

Mass transit sucks arse and balls. The only thing worse than the NYC subway is the Underground in London.

I like the CTA in Chicago. Always come off the L with a story ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)

You would love the Metro in Paris then. A lot of stations are themed differently:
Jules Vern Steampunk
Louvre
American Revolution

I've seen enough on the Instagram subwaycreatures to be okay not participating in that slice of life on an everyday basis.
