Yard is about an acre with a pretty steep hill I been mowing by riding gangster on one side of my mower. I have a gravely dealer 5 miles away. Other than that I have aJohn Deere dealer about 30 miles. Other options are the Lowe's/home Depot.

However I was thinking of buying a Toro online and having it delivered if I didn't get go with gravely. But there are so many options I have no idea what I need. Was looking at time cutter hd with my ride from toro or zt hd from gravely. Also can get freedom z from scag for roughly same price as gravely

Definitely would love to get commercial transmission. Leaning hard towards gravely due to dealer location but scag is just a few miles further. About 10 more miles. But it's ran by an older man who's about to retire I'm afraid.

I don't think you could go wrong with either the Gravely or Scag. I would stay away from HD/Lowes as their mowers are not built the same. Check around to see if any dealers have any trade ins available. You can usually find a good deal on a commercial mower that would last a long time only mowing 1 acre.

Keep 2 acres of trash grass up for my in-laws on a Lowe’s jd ztr. 10-15 years of use, no issues other than a fuel pump change last year.

Which ever mower you choose, get as much info as you can on how the mower performs on slopes. I used a Toro for a while and it didn't have the traction to mow the bank of the lake. The turf scars haven't recovered and that was about a year ago.

My primary mower is an old Cub Cadet Z-Force 50 with wide rear tires which can climb the steep bank without losing traction and chewing up the yard. Few reviews I've read cover the ability to stick to inclined yards.

I don't have a zero turn, but I always thought (at least the reviews and specs say this) you shouldn't use a zero turn mower for anything over 15% grade because it can flip over. What is the actual truth to this?

I'm not sure about the angle of slope I've mowed, but if it's a little wet with the slope, it can be problematic. ZTRs essentially only use 2 wheels for traction.
A riding mower isn't necessarily a lot better. Just be wary of your situation and learn the safest way to mow.
It's possible that you may have to resort to a push mower or weed eater for the steepest slopes

What about the Tractor Supply mowers? Also, what are the opinions of Husqvarna? I'm looking for something in the $2,500 - $3,000 range. I was thinking about the Cub Cadet Ultima Series ZT1 54", although 54" is larger than I need. I have less than an acre.

it's your money, but...literally any big box store mower can take care of that easily. a scag or gravely is way overkill for that

I have a Huster Raptor 52" with the Kawasaki engine. No regrets.

Whatever models you're considering, check their owner's manuals online to see what the maximum slope they recommend is.

I saw a Messicks video the other day with a Cub Cadet steering wheel zero turn mower. The front wheels actually turn and are linked so you don't have the rundown on hills that you have with traditional zero turns...

I bought a Husqvarna Z254 a few years ago. 54” cut 26 HP Kohler engine.
The stock rear tires when wet don’t have a lot of traction. If you’re mowing on a slope could be a problem. There are after market knobby tires, but that’s an added expense.

As for as the mower, paid $3000, cut four acres flat terrain.
Zero issues. More than enough power. Had a choice of Kohler, Kawasaki or Briggs engine.
Almost went with the Kawasaki. I have other equipment with Kawasaki engines. Went with Kohler because of HP ( it was the most HP ).
Would buy again.

Get the Scag doesn’t matter how old the dealer is you’ll need him a lot less if you buy the Scag.
