No I’m not expecting the best but how bad or not bad are the homes really? Anyone have purchased a DR Horton home past year two or three?

This thread is DR Horrible

Yeah don’t. Cheap prices for a reason.

Our first home was built by DR Horton. There wasn't a 90 degree angle in it.

We bought that one in 2006. Let's put it this way, I wouldn't buy another house they built.

Think of a trailer, but built on site on a slab

They are awful. My buddy is an inspector and text me pictures all the time of ridiculous stuff he sees

My mom had one. She wanted it because of the faux French villa look, high ceilings, and the big bathroom, but it is pretty cringe worthy. I've had to fix a lot of things on it, serious plumbing issues, electrical wasn't done right, there's a lot of shortcuts, and the slab is still settling so the doors and whatnot have had to be adjusted and even trimmed.
Oh, and they didn't use primer on the walls. The houses are really close together. The dirt is mostly sand and is situated so that everyone can see in everyone else's back yard. No mature trees anywhere. The garage isn't wide enough for two modern vehicles and there's no extra storage like a boat port. The roof overhangs are only like 1' (or less) instead of the 2.5' to 3' overhangs on older homes.
The worst part are the neighbors, cigarette smoking, and pit bulls that you will find yourself living amongst once the neighborhood ages.
Find yourself an older home in an established neighborhood and update it.

I didn't know you were so poor.

I've had two. A starter home and a mid size home. If you know what you are buying on the front end it isn't bad. It isn't custom, the materials aren't great, and you can't tell the work isn't great. But for the price I've paid for both, it was a fair deal.
When compared to other homes in the price range, DRH ceilings are higher, they are newer, and the master bath is typically bigger. Those were enough of selling points to get me to buy two.
Is it my forever home, absolutely not. But it works fine.
Feel free to drop some questions and I'll do my best to answer.

I'm a home inspector, don't do it.

With Da Carona raging, this company will be out of business within months

I go into DR Horton homes quite a bit because the company I work for sells granite to them . I laser shoot the counters and see how poorly these houses are built. A starter home maybe but if your in it for the long haul maybe look elsewhere

I hear they’re better than DLSD but I guess that means they’re a better flavored shite.

I had one a few years back. It was a nice little house. Lived there 6 years and I didn’t have any problems.

They are so bad, they make my DSLD look like a professional built it

My sister just bought one. Even got their cheap homeowners insurance.
I've been to the home once and it appeared OK at first glance.
Granted that I visited at night and I didn't really take a good look at the details. And it is still new, only been in the home a couple of months

A lot of people speaking from experience.
Same here and don't buy one.
Windows leaked (condensation) or misaligned.
Plumbing leak in kitchen. Sloppy construction overall.
