And given our exposure to the rest of the world I'm not sure what our economic ceiling would be if we went about life as usual and the rest of the world is handcuffed
I realize that I slightly Misread this paragraph in my last post.

We definitely won't reach our ceiling until the rest of the world comes back online.

This does bring up another point that the average American probably doesn't think much about. but the negative effects of a crushed American economy extend outside of our borders. More the point the negative effects of a crushed first world economy extend well outside of our borders. And they will most certainly experience a significantly higher death rate for reasons unrelated to coronavirus because of it

Pretty much every person in the field of epidemiology doesn't think that this will be over in a month.

Now will the economy open back up in a month? That's possible, but this shite isn't just going away. We may be dealing with this during the summer of 2021.

I consider it a near certainty that we will be dealing with this again. That's pretty much the entire reason why I think our approach is silly. It's completely unsustainable I'm definitely not repeatable

The freaking disease isn't going to have a 100% infection rate.

We aren't even at the point that we're testing 100% of the people with symptoms that fail tests for other viral infections or the flu because of test shortages. Which is keeping that mortality rate floating higher than what it really will be

We are almost certainly going to see this virus again. We can't crush the economy every 12 to 18 months

From what I'm reading it's likely that we'll be having lock downs similar to this one about every 6 months for the next 18 months. So expect 2 more after this round.

That might explain the 6T figure...

I'm aware

I just have always found it useful in rhetorical debate to Grant the worst-case to the other side and still demonstrate why their argument is silly

The level of stupid for leaders to impose lockdowns every 6 months for 18 months is staggering

Frankly if the question is "do the above or 3 million will die" the answer is don't do the above

So why is almost the entire globe on some sort of lock down? Are they all fricking over their own economies to try to derail the Trump campaign?

Why do people ply so fricking stupid?

The media is taking advantage of the situation to sabotage him.

If this media was back in the 40's and they hated FDR they would be making excuses for the Axis.

Well the hope is that the first shut down will buy us some time to mitigate the body count and allow scientists to work on viral medications and or/vaccinations and conduct clinical trials.

And evidently last Monday a possible vaccine went into clinical trials for testing. It does take significant time to get it cleared through the trials and if successful (hopefully) mass produce it and distribute it for consumption.

And also by that time the hope is that we've caught up on the shortage of medical supplies and won't be caught with our proverbial pants down like we were this time.

With some luck, effort, and ingenuity we may be able to avoid another shut down. But it seems unlikely.

Please post links to any full blown assault by any media outlet on the Kenyan Messiah as 13,000-16,000 Americans died from the Pig Flu. And not old and compromised victims, most of those victims were under 40, including children.

Of course not, but regardless of how en vogue it is to should've, would've, could've this to death, my guess is we are handling it with roughly the correct response.

However, if we are approaching millions dead, it is pretty safe to say we lost in the grand scheme of things.

Sure

But they aren't intentionally wrecking the economy

That was pretty much inevitable as we're seeing from around the globe

If we did nothing, I think it's safe to say the virus is contagious enough to be closer to 100% than say 50%. How many people have gone without catching the flu in their lifetimes?

While I agree that it's unsustainable, I also believe future cases will not be like this because we will most likely have vaccines developed and it will then be considered just another flu.

Wait

So you're going LIFETIME total deaths?

In any case the freaking Spanish flu only infected 25% of the world's population
