Nurse Wife Asked To Move To ICU

My wife is a surgical nurse at the local hospital. Just got asked to move to ICU since elective surgeries are no longer being done. We don’t need the money. Not sure how I feel about this?

Tell her to start taking Chloroquine

Thank her for her service. God bless nurses.

Being a nurse, she signed up for this.

If she can work in ICU, there are many more people there with illness/injury not related to COVID-19. I'd suggest she go for it.
She could get some overtime as well, so if you have bills to pay consider it a blessing. Don't blow it all on truck nutz.

isn't this an OT thread?
If it is, sorry! I never look at that board.

If she looks anything like pic, you shouldn’t let her out of your bedroom.

If she looks anything remotely like the one in that pic, I know exactly how I would feel.

My mom was a nurse. She had 4 kids and would never give up the opportunity to help others. Her calling was being a nurse. She took that calling seriously. She would consider the ramifications but it was her job and our family totally supported her.

She’s telling you that and some doctor is telling his wife the same BS. This won’t end well!

She's still a nurse and is essential personnel

Well there you go. Not surprisingly, you DO know how you feel about this. Yet you posted anyway.

No offense but surgical nurses don’t do squat, that’s a major jump.. Scrub techs do most of the work...
She wouldn’t last a week in ICU, especially what’s going on right now..

Yup. My wife is a Neuro ICU nurse. At first they were asking for volunteers to work the new Covid unit at double pay. They then changed it to making it mandatory for several ICU nurses from each dept to staff it and without any additional pay.
She has yet to be forced to work it but because of shortages she will start having to work overtime to cover the nurses being sent to the covid unit.

The ICU nurses I used to work with were exceptional about proper preventative care. They knew the drill and they never forgot to do it once. And if she moves to the ICU unit, wouldnt she be limited to the amount of patients she would be over?
Its the ER Nurses that should worry IMO (if you are going to worry). ERs have probably turned into clinics by this point.

Then tell her to stay home. There’s a lot of nurses on the fire dealing with this. If she’s used to doing surgery prep then the ICU isn’t for her. They will eat her alive

Your wife’s workplace politics aren’t really what they meant by “Political Talk”
