Supposedly there is a big update coming at the end of Sept or beginning of October but I will believe it when I see it.

I think the opposite worked for me. I don't have that many at all, there's not alot of options so the same trees keep spawning bugs and eventually the rare ones appear.

yep They all appeared eventually as long as i was in the time frame when they were supposed to appear.
ETA most of the ones I needed were the ones that appear at night. (5pm - 8am)
ETA again ACNH LIFE is a great app to see when the bugs and fish appear and how much they are worth

The mystery islands like Bamboo & Hardwood Islands appear to be the best for doing that, since they're flat as a pancake once you eliminate all the trees/stumps.
Seems like you can only get 4-6 bugs to spawn on the island at any given time, so you have to run off the earth-boring dung beetles, etc.
I finally got the Giraffe Stag. Just need the Horned Hercules and the Golden Stag, now.

congrats on the Giraffe Stag. Sorry I forgot to mention about getting rid of the other bugs and finding a flat island.
ETA - trying to find bugs using this method when mole crickets are in season is a PITA. They don't come back till November so you are good.

FWIW, the thing I read that really upped my game was that I didn't understand that you not only need to creep up on the ultra-rare ones like normal, but you have to edge up with the same technique employed with the Tarantula/Scorpion. The Golden Stag's flight radius is so high you'll never catch one just by pressing the A button alone, like a normal bug.
Now on to the Horned Hercules, and it's totally done for the Jul-Aug beetles.

Got a 2nd one last night. I haven't seen a Horned Mammoth in 3 days.
The PITA is that it takes like half an hour to clear off the mystery island, and that's if you get lucky with one of the flat ones.

I haven't touched this game in months. Hopefully it's something good. They also teased a new series of Amiibo Cards. I'm assuming you'll be able to get Raymond way easier once those release.

Does anyone have 2 banded dragonflies they can part with? I can't believe I spent years ignoring the dragonflies. Probably passed up on lots of them, but I'm trying to get the giant model from Flick.

I don't think you can trade off bugs/fish. If you go to someone's island, they can only Place them to get them out of their inventory, at which point you cannot move the fish tank/bug cage.
