Jerry Palm has dropped us to a 10 seed after last night. I still worry that if we lose Saturday and in 1st game of SEC tourney, we may be in danger of missing the dance.....Downvote away, but a 10 seed is not "safely in" guys.

Win either of those 2 and it cements us as "in". And we may sneak in even with 2 losses, but it's not a sure thing like some think.

If we beat Uga we will be a lock. This years LSU team would be a bubble team in most years, but since every team from a 6 seed in the ncaa to a 3 seed in the NIT is basically as good as a bubble team we are close to being a lock

IMO of course

Getting in is the goal but honestly I'd rather be a 10 seed than an 8 or 9. The 2 seeds this year aren't scaring anyone.

I agree that currently being on the 10 line means LSU is close to being out. Need to take care of business Saturday.

Winning Saturday will end any speculation, but being a 10 seed means there's 6-10 at large bids coming behind you...

Palm is always too low, but yes we are running out of breathing room. Obviously would be a very bad idea to lose to Georgia at home.

FWIW, Lunardi just dropped us to a 9, but we're still a few spots above bubble territory.

As long as we make the tourney then we still have a shot to win it all!

well Jerry is a dummy.
we are a 9 seed at worst, assuming we beat UGA. We aren't going to drop any lower than that after the SECT, and can only go up.

That being said, i'd rather be a 10 seed than the 8-9, like others have said.
Win the SECT while beating Kentucky and UF/AU, and we might get to a 6-7 seed. If we don't beat anyone of relevance in the tourney it's 8-9 seed.

Not that I think LSU is going to make the Final Four, but historically 8-seeds have made more Final Fours (5) than 6, 7, 9, and 10 seeds. In fact, 8 seeds have made as many championship game appearances (3) as 4 and 5 seeds, and MORE than 6 or 7 seeds.

Why? Can't say for sure. But perhaps it is because they get to "slay the dragon" early, and face easier competition the rest of the way as a result (including being on the 5/12 side of the bracket which historically produces the most upsets). There may be some advantage to catch a #1 seed on one day's rest with minimal prep time if you are a prohibitive underdog

I think you're absolutely right. 20-12 would put us on the bubble and our resume isn't that great. I have us at 10 right now in my bracketology, too. I think if we can win Saturday, win a quarterfinal, and win a Semi against Auburn, then we could potentially get up to a 7 seed with a 23-11 record. winning saturday gives us a much easier road in the SECT because I think it'd put us at the 2 seed.

People are really scared of the 8-9 seed, which is understandable, but I'd be pretty excited to get to play one of these 1 seeds. 8-9 seeds get to the Sweet 16 more often than you'd think:
9 Kansas State 2018 (Elite 8)
9 Florida State 2018 (Elite 8)
8 Wisconsin 2017
8 NC State 2015 (beat us in round 1)
8 Kentucky 2014 (National Runner Up)
9 Wichita State 2013 (Final Four)
8 Butler 2011 (Runner Up)
9 Northern Iowa 2010
That's 8 times in the past 10 years. If we can get matched up with a San Diego State, for example, in a 1 vs 8/9 game, I would hate our chances honestly. Catch us on a hot shooting day, we can beat anyone in the country. All that being said, We'd be in a much better spot from the 7 line.

ETA: Because I was curious, I looked how many 7/10 seeds have gotten to the Sweet 16, too, and it's 14 times in the past 10 years.

That's 10% of 8/9 seed teams and 17.5% of 7/10 seeds.

LSU will not make the tournament if they lose the next two games. They've only won 3 out of the last nine games and if they lose the next two, I don't see them making it! The committee looks at what teams are playing their best basketball right now and LSU is not one of them. Throw in that they have another loss to Vandy, the worst team in the SEC, and they don't have a strong argument. These next two games are must wins if LSU wants to make the big dance. I'm sure that's not what you want to hear, but reality sometimes isn't pretty!

No they don't. That used to be part of the criteria (it's why LSU got in the tournament in 2003). Not anymore. In fact, the dates of games don't appear anywhere on the "nitty gritty" sheets used by the committee.

They are currently sitting at #33 in the NET rankings. They have 4 "quality" wins to one "bad" loss. The committee values good wins over bad losses. The one loss to Vandy isn't a deal breaker...at all.

I know you are kind of a troll. But if you are going to be one, at least be an informed one.

Could LSU fall out of the tournament if they lose the next two. Possibly. But that's not a guarantee. LSU is going to get a lot of milage out of a very strong SOS and non-conf. SOS. Getting a win on Sat and/or next Friday would lock them in. But even losing both doesn't mean they are out

I honestly think winning our last game and losing first game of sec tourney doesn’t cement us as in. We’ve been trending down going into tourney. I think we need to make a lil run in the sec tourney not just to make in to the dance but to build momentum

Would rather be a 10 seed than an 8. More likely to survive a couple of rounds as a 10 seed.

If we get the sdsu is a #1 seed region, I would LOVE to be in the 8-9 game.

I like that 8-9 spot. Win saturday. Win at least 1 in SECT and 8 lock. We are a 21-10 team. We ok
