Saw an old pay phone the other day and kind of got excited about it until I saw the actual phone was no longer there. Brought back tons of memories in my youth. Sneaking out of the house in the middle of the night so I could ride my bike 2 miles to the nearest pay phone to call my girl friend. Car breaking down and walking to the nearest pay phone only to find the damn receiver wasn't attached to the cord or you didn't have .25 cents so you made a collect call. Calling an operator to look up someone's phone number for you. Asking someone to come pick you up at a pay phone and looking around trying to describe where the hell you were at.

Good times!

ETA: Fixed erroneous spelling in title.

Well, it's close. If you add/sub some letters and do some rearranging, it'll work.

I used to use them all of the time.

I could call our office on our 1-800 number and the secretary or dispatcher would patch me through to any number.

Can remember when they cost a nickel for a local call.

The old phones were quite heavy. My dad taught many a lesson with the old phone, before I wised up and stayed out of range of the cord.

I carried a bag of quarters in my vehicle as a teen so i could make a call on a pay phone when needed.

Especially after pagers we’re out and you needed to return a call
