Pastalaya vs jambalaya

What’s the difference in ratio for (rice and water) vs (pasta and water)?

Pasta is a lot more forgiving. Around 18-24oz water per pound. Rice is around 16oz water per cup of rice with less tolerance for error.

i use 5 cups of water per pound of pasta. i use rotini noodles.

I use 3oz. of liquid to each dry ounce of pasta.
That works out to 6 Cups of liquid for 1 pound of pasta. I just stick to that ratio in case i'm using a strange sized bag of pasta. Pasta shape doesn't effect this ratio, either. I've tried them all.
I only use water or stock in my Pastalaya though. No cream of anything soup, no tomatoes, etc. Just water or stock, seasonings, boullion cubes, kitchen bouquet, meat, and pasta. Comes out moist, but not sloppy and gloopy.
As someone previously posted, pasta is far more forgiving than rice. Rice is what separates the men from the boys.

It’s linked in the recipe thread stickied at the top of this forum. Rat let the website go, but the calculator will always exist.

ARRRRRG! why yall gotta put lip stick on a pig? Jambalaya is made with rice any time its made with pasta its spaghetti. chicken spaghetti dont believe me ask ya grandpa.

All spaghetti is pasta. Not all pasta is spaghetti. Mac n cheese isn’t spaghetti. Fettuccine isn’t spaghetti.
Pasta - 4.5 cups of water per 1 pound of pasta
Rice - 1 gallon of water per 5 pounds of rice

BTW, if I ever update the JC, OC's question will probably be the reason. I could add a tab for calculating the amount of pasta and liquid. Might also update the list of stores with jambalaya-related products.

It ain't like it's being served at the Jamb Festival.
Most pastalaya recipes have ALL KINDS of crap in there that you would never put in a jamb.

Hello, I am helping my wife softball team by cooking a Pastalaya. I have never done one and I have been reading allot about your calculator. Is this still available? I bought a 10 gal pot and need to figure out how much I can put in there.

Go to manda meats website. They have a great pastalaya recipe that I always get compliments when I cook it. I add a little more paprika than the recipe calls for to give it more color. Also the recipe calls for spaghetti noodle. Substitute with another type of noodle like spiral.

Thanks I found it. I have someone helping me cook my first one this size. I feel his amounts are way of. For a 10 gal he said 15lbs of meat and 4 bags of noodles. If I am right I should be able to cook enough for 100 in that 10 gal pot. I used the calculator to figure out for 90% but I may back it off to 80-85% so it doesn't overflow when I boil the noodles.
