The insanity of the socialization of our medical care

I rarely post but I am fed up with what the socialist democrats are doing and what they have done to our healthcare system. I have been in healthcare for 25 years and I have watched it become destroyed through socialized medicine
I will give you just one example of how uncontrolled it is, especially since Obamacare has been enacted.
I just saw a patient that has medicaid and unlimited visits for ER and doctor visits. She has been to the ER over 50 times in less than 3 months!!!. She will not be turned away. The average cost of an ER visit is $1389. Her ER visits alone in that time span have cost the taxpayers $70,000. That is a drop in the bucket of what is going on everyday all over this country in our ERs. I spend a fortune on health insurance that is pitiful compared to what it was pre Obamacare.
I don't care if you downvote, but I just wanted to give you an example of what I see everyday in the real world

The cost of LASIK is roughly half of what it was 10 years ago.
Amazing what happens when the govt and health insurance have zero input on price of a medical procedure.

I was told Obamacare would significantly cut down on this because it would give her insurance and therefore she could go to the doctor, not the ER.

i used to enjoy Shameless but took a break from it for 2 or 3 years.
Started back on Season 8 (clearly written after Trump was elected) and the amount of LGBTWX, Canada-is-the-best-with-cheap-drugs, poor little persecuted muslims and anti-trump TDS on the show has completely ruined it. I am trying to ignore it but the amount of propaganda on the show is insufferable. I'm out for good this time.

The best example of the value of cash and competition

It is ridiculous how many healthy people come in to be seen weekly and monthly for such minor things such as paper cuts, a cold that started two hours ago, minor aches and pains, runny nose, etc. They come in to socialize with others in the lobby. They will visit the ER and then turn right around and come as a walk in to the doctor on the same day. The waste of money and time is incredible. Unless you work in the healthcare industry, you just cannot be aware how abusive and wasteful it has become.

Great example of a health care procedure being treated as a commodity and not a "right"

Had a Bernie bro who is all in on Medicare for all get completely mind blown by that fact. He then went on to say “well why can’t we do that with the rest of the medical industry”
Well, shithead, I’m all for that. But your boy Bernie wants to go in the complete opposite direction

She mostly goes to the ER for complaints of pain. The pain is always ill defined and vague. It could be back pain or abdominal pain. Multiple tests are usually run that come back negative. Sometimes she is given pain medication and sometimes she is not
Even if the cost is written off, it is a waste of the resources and time of the ER. It makes the wait time longer for others who need it.
She is going to multiple ERs and sometimes 2 in the same day

Amazing!! Put this option on the table and the piece-of-shite parasites come out of the woodwork. Who could possibly have foreseen such a thing?

Don't forget the "free" ambulance ride and visit from the Fire Department everytime the PT calls 911.

I will have to tell my 81 year old that she is supposed to hate her Medicare. For some strange reason, she absolutely loves it.

If they would allow a co-pay with ER visits for Medicaid patients, that would eliminate this nonsense. However, I understand why they don't do a co-pay for legit visits. Back in my day with had a fast track area for this type patient. Didn't eliminate all of the costs but it kept them from tying up limited "true" emergency beds. We were a Level 1 trauma center so this kind of crap tied up valuable resources.

I down voted you because you did not care if I did even though I share your concerns.
