No thanks. If you go into a field to work with children you better be equipped to actually work with children. Again, this would be common sense though.
Are you in a field with children? If so, what would you have done?

I’ve already listed a few reasons a kid might act out that have nothing to do with parenting, in a post that you replied to.
But, a quick google search would actually give you a plausible explanation. This is from another article written about this event:
LINK
quote:
Kirkland said Rolle was acting out in class, a side effect of a lack of sleep from a medical condition, so she was sent to the office. While Rolle was there, a staff member grabbed her wrists in order to calm her down and that's when she lashed out and kicked, according to Kirkland.
The article goes on to say that the grandmother is claiming the girl has sleep apnea. Which lists moodiness and irritability as side effects.

Assuming this is true...hell, you don’t even have assume anything. All you need to know is that there are reasons kids act out that aren’t caused by bad parenting.

So if I'm calm when the police arrive after assaulting someone I should be let go?
Did you see the video? There was absolutely no reason for that little girl to be arrested. She is SIX. Why is that hard for you people to understand? The kid was scared when he was trying to restrain her. He could have picked the kid up and carried her to his vehicle.
She will go through life hating police.. Or at least be scared as shite when she sees them.
In elementary school there was this girl who was in accelerated classes so she was in my class for several years in a row. She was smart, but she had some issues. She would cry and throw fits, throw shite, etc I still remember it because we use to always talk about it.. Especially in HS because she saw smart AF, but was crazy as shite.
When she would throw fits, throw stuff, try to kick people, etc the teacher would just ignore her and after awhile she would get over it. This was 1, 2..3.. 4th grade.. Looking back, the thought that a policeman would have arrested her is crazy.
People are asking why the called the police. Is it policy for them to call the police in certain situations? Was he an on duty policeman?

Should've used the nightstick and chokehold

You’re making assumptions based on your own limited experience.

I am pretty sure I read about this the other day and it mentioned that the girl was diagnosed with ADHD and something else maybe. Either way, there is nothing that has been published that suggest anything that can make you assume what type of home life she comes from.
But again.. She is a 6 year old.

I used to share his sentiment until I had my daughter. I'll spare the details but she has a condition that severely affects her maturity, decision making skills, and behavior yet she looks perfectly normal. I can't tell you how many nasty looks I've been given over the years or unsolicited advice I've received about how to discipline her. She couldn't count to ten before she was twelve years old and people think an arse whooping will straighten her right up. It's infuriating.
Your daughter has an identified disability. You have taken proper steps to identify and deal with the problem.
What about the child in question? Has she been tested? If not, why not?
Everyone blaming this cop. No, her pathetic parents and this horrible school have failed her.
Look at the link oleheat posted. This school is awful. I suspect the parents are pretty bad as well.

Follow his standard operating procedures and radio for supervisor approval to arrest someone under the age of 12.

Nope, and I would not have called the fricking police on a six year old child. If I were a cop, I wouldn't fricking arrest a calm, six year old child.
Man, that was a tough one.

So you have no clue what you would have done or been legally allowed to do

So if you were a cop and that 6 year old was scared out of her mind because the cop was restraining her.. You are saying you would have done the same thing as he did?

I'd do anything rational. In short, I wouldn't hit the kid, physically restrain the kid or call the police to arrest a six year old child.

They asked if restraining her was necessary and his response was "if she was older we would have used handcuffs". What?
It seems like, in his mind, he was looking at the situation as if "what would I do if she was 18 years old?". He didn't know what the frick he was doing.

You may have noticed I didn't assign blame in my post because I don't have all the information. My post was directed at people claiming their hypothetical children would never act like that when in many cases the reason for the behavior is out of the parents control. Sure, there's a ton of shitty parents but there are also a lot of parents that are trying to make the most of a bad situation so unless I know what kind of parents they are I try to withhold judgement.
But the urge to post a 'hot take' on the internet is irresistible to some.

Talking about the teachers. not the cop

I think he was fired because the policy was to get approval from a supervisor before arresting someone younger than 12. He did not get approval.
A cop not following orders and thinks he can do whatever he wants? Shocking.
