I mowed professionally for awhile with an Exmark. The stock battery lasted 7 years. Great mower.

Spent about a year on one for a landscaper. Ran great when I wasn't running into shite.

Cub cadet Ultima XT2 50” offered only at Cub Cadet dealers. Comes with a 23 hp Kawasaki engine $3,699 with ZT-28 transmission which is a step up from the EZT sealed ones. Easy to clean, well built, and unlike others in the price range lift up floor pan to get to the deck to clean

Thanks. I’ll check them out.
I don’t care so much about brand.

I’m downsizing and no longer need my BIG DOG ALPHA. Its made by Hustler. Bought it at K & D. It’s a 36” cut, welded deck, 15hp Kawasaki. 20 hours on the mower. It’s a 2017. Paid $2700. Would take $2200.

as long as you spend the money and get a real commercial mower, it doesn't really matter, they all make good machines.
I've run a exmark lazer z for the last 10 years to cut my 5 acre yard, but i'd get a different brand if I made the right deal on one.

run away from them 0-5k$ machines if you are gonna use it a lot. thank me later.

I have the Kawasaki exmark residential 42". Been a good mower but if I had to do it over I would buy the Kawasaki Hustler.

If your set on a hustler then look at a big dog. Same manufacturer but big difference in price for basically the same machine

I have a Hustler, best mower I have had. Whatever you buy, only get a mower that has a mower deck fabricated from welded plate steel, not the stamped steel found on most non-commercial mowers typically found at Lowe’s/ Home Depot.

I mow with a middle of the line Scag Patriot. They're not cheap, but I went from taking 5 hrs on a bushhog to 2 or less hrs in my Scag. I got mine used with only 130 hrs on it.

For 3-4k, I suggest not buying anything and saving up your money a little more. Maybe they'd work for you, but for my 8 acres, not so much. I was torn between a grasshopper and scag, but in the end I went with what I could afford and had the best deal used.

No mower companies produce their own batteries. They also do not produce their own engines or hydro drives or wheels or tires or seats or spindles or blade clutch pretty much anything else.

They build the frames and the decks. All pro models use pretty much the same hydro units, same deck clutch, same commercial engines...

Spend a little more and you will have a mower that will last a very long time. One with a heavy 7 gauge deck that will not that through or bend every time you but a root.

My Gravely Proturn 152 weighs just over 1,000 pounds. The sub $5,000 units at Home Depot are only 600 pounds at most.

Find a good local dealer of any commercial brand and spend over 5k. If your property is a little rough, look for one with a suspension seat.

Small residential lawn where you want a good quality of cut stamp decks are great as they have good airflow and give you a good quality of cut.

For an acre or two if your buying a $5k or more mower your are throwing money down a toilet as you will never see the benefit.
I agree you need a large property owner unit with ZT 28 to ZT 31 transmissions on the higher side. Stay away from the box looking fab deck. The more it looks like a box the worse the cut, lacks air flow, and clumps at high speeds. It hampers you being able to cut at higher speeds.

No matter what people say the avg life is 7 years on a mower. Some get more and some get less. After 7 yrs the transmissions, deck hardware, and engines start showing their age.
I see a lot of mowers come through my shops and that is about the avg life of a non municipal or true commercial use mower. One of the worst cuts and I sell it is the gravely ZTX residential line. Exmark makes a residential line that is also horrible. I hate selling these units. While I do like other lines they sell which is why I sell them. Each mfg has their niche. Depends on maintenance and use. The avg life is 7 yrs.

As someone said all mower mfg do is make the frame and decks. Each one has their theory on comfort and deck cut. Transmissions, seats, electrical, spindles, tires, and motors come from a handful of mfg’s.

Bigger companies have buying power on steel, motors, transmissions, etc. Means get higher level major components in a unit for less dollars than smaller companies. They can also back up parts well past 7 yrs while others good luck.

Until you change the decks for blow outs on the left side. Changed a few out last year.

It is a good unit but like everything else has their issues.

I am normally a John Deere guy but after buying a ztrack and the transmission going out after 73 hours I will still buy their tractors but leave the mowers alone.
